Chase V AMEX
Hello. I am new here. I just started in the CC mileage game. I just met my 50k on my Chase Sapphire reserve and am receiving the IHG rewards Club Premier in a the mail in the next few days. My question is what my next step should be.
Do I continue with Chase cards until I've met the 5/24 rule? I am at 3 cc's in the last 6 months (I got a BJ's cc about 6 months ago). I have an Alaska air which I use pretty much only for the companion fare.
But i'm thinking of perhaps getting a JetBlue card. Or maybe the Chase Freedom? I just logged into Card Match and saw that I was pre-approved for an AMEX Platinum with a 100k bonus if I spend 5k in the first 3 months. which I understand is a good deal.
Do I only get chase cards until the 5/24 rule is met? Or do I get the AMEX and take advantage of the great deal (even though I already am paying $450/yr for my CSR?
Am I risking losing the AMEX offer if I don't take it now?
thanks in advance.
Dave

Depends on what airline and hotel programs you use. Are you a Hyatt person? Delta person?
I think the value of each program is based on how one travels and their preferences.

You're off to a good start but balance out your applications, annual fees, minimum spending and benefits so you don't overextend yourself in any one, or more, direction. Unless you have a long credit history with solid income it's wise to pace yourself. Applying for too much credit makes you look like a risk to banks and if you get labeled as a churner they can deny you future cards or bonuses.
The Amex 100k MR offer for the Platinum is quite good and you can recover much of the annual fee each year but there is also some overlap with the CSR. If you travel a lot that can be a good thing as CSR's PP membership includes restaurants while Amex does not but does come with lounges that Chase does not offer. General downside to the Amex Plat is the limited earning potential. Unless you book a lot of airfare or hotels via Amex Travel/FHR the earnings is limited which is why many people pair it with the Amex Gold for 4x earning on dining & grocery.
For Chase, if you have the ability, look into the Chase Ink cards. The CIP has the 80k UR offer for a $95 AF with some earning potential but there is also the CIU which has a nice 50k UR offer with no AF and 1.5UR on all spending. Ink cards are bound by 5/24 but do not count towards 5/24 so they give you some time to have other cards drop off your 2 year application period.

Such great information. I think I'll wait on the AMEX and revisit a year from now. I may just go for the gold, as they offered 50k pts. but for now I'd like to stay in the chase family. It's good to know the ink card doesn't count towards the 5/24 rule, but is bound by it.

The 100k MR offer is periodic and targeted. Just something to keep in mind. The 100k MR would send you to Asia Return/Open-Jaw in business (I did a 5 business class segments open-jaw award last year for 96K MR).
The Gold is a great card particularly if you spend a lot at dining, including many bars, and grocery where you can pickup gift cards for things like gas to earn points more effectively. Recouping the annual fee is quite easy in my opinion between the airline fee credit, $10 monthly limited dining credit & amex offers I end up making money each year). I also believe there is a 60k Amex Gold referral offer going around so ask someone you know or here for one. Same for the CIU and maybe the CIP when it comes to referrals.
