Personal Card
Click here to get the same offer (see below) with the annual fee waived the first year. First try entering code 999999 in the box at the top of the page. Apparently this offer is from an AA employee selling the card inflight, but it seems to be open to everyone. But publishing that employee's code online could get the employee in trouble. If 999999 doesn't work, use employee code 356467. Note: You will NOT get a $99 Companion Certificate as part of your bonus when the annual fee is waived.
Language from the web offer page: Anniversary Companion Certificate: Each anniversary year; earn a Companion Certificate good for 1 guest at $99 (plus taxes and fees) after spending $20,000 on purchases and your account remains open for 45 days after your anniversary date. There is NO LANGUAGE in this offer regarding a "complimentary" companion certificate.

AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard
1. 70K offer https://cards.barclaycardus.com/cred...0-8f2f74651285 DEAD

2. 60,000 bonus miles and $99 Companion Certificate after first purchase and paying the $99 annual fee
Offer landing page: https://cards.barclaycardus.com/card...astercard.html

The offer fine print:
The primary cardmember will earn sixty thousand (60,000) AAdvantage® bonus miles after a purchase is made on the card account within ninety (90) days of card account opening and the annual fee has been paid. Please allow 4-6 weeks for the AAdvantage®bonus miles to be deposited into your AAdvantage® account. Balance transfers and cash advances do not qualify as purchases. This offer may be canceled at any time without notice.

In addition to the sixty thousand (60,000) AAdvantage® bonus miles, the primary cardmember will earn one (1) domestic economy fare American Airlines introductory Companion Certificate redeemable for one (1) companion ticket at $99 (plus taxes and fees) after a purchase is made on the card account within ninety (90) days of card account opening and the annual fee has been paid. Please allow 8-10 weeks for delivery of the Companion Certificate after the qualifying purchase has posted to your card account and the annual fee has been paid. Balance transfers and cash advances do not qualify as purchases. This offer may be canceled at any time without notice.

This one-time offer is valid for eligible cardmembers. You may not be eligible for this offer if you currently have or previously had an account with us in this program.
There are data points indicating that this is not always enforced: See posts 439, 496, 514, 516, 517, 538, 835

As of Sept. 2017, most people applying for an Aviator card are being denied, "instantly" by a computer, if they already have an Aviator card open. As of Dec. 2017, most people applying for an Aviator card are being denied, even by recon, if they already have an Aviator card open. It had been that current and previous Aviator Red (US Airways Converted) cardmembers were not subject to the 24-month restriction. This seems to have changed as far as current card holders applying for a second, concurrent card. (See posts #185, 193, 194, 195, 198, 199, 211, 220, 247, 290, 527, 529, 532)

Sign Up Bonus Info:
It appears that if your SUB includes the $95 AF (annual fee), Barclays doesn't post the AF until the 2nd statement. Thus, it will be a min. of 2 statements before you see your SUB points. This is only if the SUB requires the AF (as opposed to some SUBs that just have the $x,xxx in purchases with no AF).

There have been at least two cases in July 2023 where Barclays posted the AF prior to the first statement. In both of those cases, the cardholder paid the AF and other balance prior to the closing date. The SUB was issued as of the first statement for one these accounts. It may be the second one was too close to the closing date.

Posting of points from Barclays SUB to AA seem to take 3-7 days after the SUB posts on the Barclays Statement.

Thanks. The problem is me. I didn't see anything at that moment and then I moved to do something else and forgot about it. Now of course the offer already expired.

Are there any recent data points of someone getting the bonus for this card when it was held previously? I am looking to have my wife apply and it's been over 2 years since she received the bonus on this card.

TIA

I've had this card numerous times, with the most recent acct applied for and approved about 2yrs 2months after the previous self cancellation. So I believe your wife should be fine with a second one.

Reapply for cancelled silver card

I did a search but couldn't find the answer to this, if there is a previous post apologies. I cancelled my Aviator Silver card in December 2019 since they were reducing the amount of EQMs and EQDs one could earn. As I look at my likelihood of keeping AA EXP this year, I can use the silver cards benefits again. I called today and asked to be reinstated and they said that I would have to reapply and that I can only apply for the red card and then be considered later for an upgrade to silver. Has anyone had this experience with them? Thank you.

No offers of retention, bummer, because that 30,000/$3,000 would have been nice.
Just closed my card as well. I was keeping it for the annual 10k miles but that stopped at the end of Dec. For some reason, my account has not been targeted for any spending bonuses. The automated voice prompt was able to cancel my card without transferring to anyone. Since there's no report of any retention offers, I didn't feel like I lost out.

Question Gym in foreign country won't stop recurring billing - if I close card, will that solv

A gym in a foreign country that I used to go to (pre-covid) keeps billing me every month, they have no phone number, and I've tried emailing them, filling out their contact form, even reaching out via twitter... they never respond, and keep billing me every month on my AAdvantage Aviator Mastercard.

Every month I have to call my credit card to contest the charge, I finally changed my credit card number, but they were still able to bill me (I found out recurring charges still go through on the backend, through Visa and Mastercard).

If I close down my credit card entirely, will they be able to stop billing me?

TLDR: Gym in foreign country isn't responding to my request to cancel membership, have been recurring billing me for over a year, changing credit card number didn't help. Will canceling credit card finally stop billing?

You'll have to ask Barclays about that. You can get billed for stuff after you close a card, and it might even be harder to dispute it then, I don't know. So that's why you should ask Barclays about what can stop it.

Have you asked them whether they can put a freeze on this biller?

Mine is coming up for renewal in March and I likely will close as well. Keeping it for the 10k and free bag when I did fly AA made sense but travel virtually stopped and no 10k it just doesn't make sense any longer.

Barclay has an automated system for closing your account over the phone. No need to even talk to anybody, they'll just close on the spot after you confirm that's what you want to do. So ends an 8 year long relationship without even a whimper.

Back in (I believe) November or December, many Aviator cardholders got an offer for 10K or 20K extra AA miles per month for three months if a spending target was hit. I got the weaker 10K offer, but the miles deposited today, showing on both the AA page and the Barclays site. If you were expecting these points, you may want to start checking....

Thanks for the heads up. Mine have been listed in my Aviator account all month as miles earned this statement period, so they'll probably get transferred into my AA account when the period closes in the next day or two.

I'm surprised this isn't getting more attention. It was an incredible deal when it was announced, but it's been 7 weeks since the promotion ended and I haven't heard a peep. Only a couple comments in this thread. Any other data points?

The base card without offers isn’t terribly exciting after the first year unless you fly AA often enough to find the early boarding and free bags justify the AF, but don’t fly often enough to earn status. So the card doesn’t get a lot of love in the points and miles community, even when it does something good like this offer. My AF was due during the first month of the promotion, and I would have canceled the card if the promotion hadn’t happened.

I have noticed several people had the points post on their Barclay account well before showing up at the AA website. I found it interesting that they appeared simultaneously in my case. Not sure what the reason was.
