Selective credit card acceptance
No idea where to put this, but figured this is as good of a place to start.
I've run across a restaurant that accepts credit cards at dinner, but at brunch, it is cash-only. I've read through merchant agreements before on a number of other issues, but feel that this policy would be counter to the agreements, as long as the $10 minimum is hit. So I ask you all, is the above policy legal or is by accepting credit cards, must the restaurant accept them at all times.

It could depend on the credit card and the location of the restaurant.
If AmEx is one of the cards accepted selectively, call them. They tend to take things of this nature seriously and will give you a definitive answer about whether their agreement would allow this.

Generally merchant agreement require that accept credit cards without stipulations. But as you've found, not all businesses do this. And there is little enforcement by the banks.
The question you have to ask yourself is if you want to continue to eat there and lose miles.
Or do some MS for the miles and points and spend that cash at that restaurant.
