Newbee ready for a churn need help
I could use some help - I'm new to this party and I don't want to make silly mistakes.
Some of my cards are coming up for renewal
Which ones are recommended to keep (pay for another year)
and which ones should I close out and re-apply for a new one?
Here is what I have (all have met their spending limits):
* MC AAdvantage
* V Club Carlson
* Ax SPG
* V Ink
* V Marriott rewards
* V Mileage plus explorer

If it were me,
I would keep the Club Carlson. The annual 40k bonus points and 2nd night free make it worth the fee.
I would call Citi and ask them to waive the annual fee. They often effectively do and maybe give some bonus challenge (e.g. double miles if spend $1000/mo.)
I'd dump the rest and save the fees.

Grab a US air card a Hilton no fee Amex, Hilton 60K visa , IHG 80K, Delta Amex, Barclay Arrival, see if you can find the SW 50K cards and go for CP in 2015 and 2016. While you are doing all this you are also letting the required time pass to get another MArriott and United card as well as AA

I would keep CC and apply for a biz one too.
If you don't care for free bags I would dump Citi AA and be ready to dump Chase United and Marriott (but not before you apply for another Chase card (s)). Dump SPG too, while you're at it and apply for SPG Biz. Do not dump Ink unless you've transferred all your points to an airline or hotel, or you will lose them.

thank you all for your help.
How long do I / should I wait to re-apply after closing a card?
For example the marriott.
Club carelson was a recent acquire, this one is one that isn't up for renewal just yet. Promo was 85K points
My credit score is in the high 700's.

The rule of thumb (very unscientific) for Chase cards is 2 years. Although, there are plenty of folks who manage to churn faster.
