Cancelling B of A card to avoid first year annual fee

I recently signed up for BoA Virgin Atlantic card with 50K miles signup bonus. I met my spending requirements within first monthly cycle and bonus miles have been already credited to my VS account. The annual fee of $90 was just posted after the first monthly statement close and payment for that won't be due for another 7-8 weeks. Has anyone tried cancelling card after getting bonus miles to avoid paying first year annual fee?

I would not attempt it. One, you could be blackballed by B of A and two, they could claw back to miles. The AF is a small price to pay for those miles. Just pay the man.

I agree with philemer but if you want to take one for the team and let us know what happens, please do.

When I got this card, after getting the points, I tried to downgrade the card. They decided to just credit the AF for me. YMMV.

Downgrade is much smarter to do then to cancel it.
I would try to downgrade NOT cancel
