This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

Just a data point...have had arrival + World MasterCard for exactly a year...just got hit with the annual fee and got email saying I was automatically being upgraded to the world elite MasterCard. CL is 15k and have had opened exactly one year.

Should be able to. I was able to pay cover most of my Disney cruise doing so. One thing to keep in mind is that the maximum redemption at one time is 200K points, or $2000. So I was able to completely cover my deposit since that was one charge, and then another $2K. I put all my onboard charges on the Barclays as well and they all show as eligible charges for redemption.

Coincidence. We have had the card much less than a year, and recently got the same notice.

If I've already paid for a statement charge, can I still credit the points toward that expense and end up with a net statement credit? Also, if a person gets an automatic denial on their app, has anyone had it reversed by a call to a CSR?

One small point, redemption is not limited to 200k points. Although sometimes online won't allow you more than 200k.

I redeemed over 350k at once, but my h's account limited an identical charge to 200k. A quick call and the rep was able to resolve the issue for larger redemptions.

Had mine for approximately 12 months as well. Was notified by mail of an upgrade this week to world elite MC. $10k CL, $2-4k per month spend.

That's a good question about the statement credit. I'm wondering the same thing...

Isn't the card is a World Elite card from the beginning? Or it is only a World Elite card starting this year?

I got the card in May and it is the World Elite card from the beginning. I dont much care about as most the extra benefits are of very little use to me.

IIRC, the original cards were issued as "World", not to be confused with World Elite (silver MC logo). There was a shift (probably right around the time you got your card) when they started issuing both World and World Elite. Initially, the World Elite cards had an EMV chip, but I believe all new Arrival cards issued have them at this point. Apparently some have had luck 'upgrading' up the World Elite card prior to Barclays feeling them worthy, I personally never cared... I have a Visa Signature card as well, and never use the features (concierge, travel services, etc...). It will be nice to get a new card before the exiriation date, though - mine is wearing out.

Are you essentially asking if you can redeem points when your current balance is $0? You can redeem points for an expense for 120 days after the purchase. So for example, you can pay for a $100 hotel room in August, pay your balance in full, and later on redeem points against that hotel expense in November. I have charges from July that are eligible to redeem points against, but I've "paid for that statement charge" several times over by this point.

It's 120 days with a World Elite, only 90 days with merely a World. That's one of the perks that come with the Elite some of us are just now being upgraded to....

Ah, that is the benefit that most can use. Thanks for bringing this up. For all our Sept travel expenses, I have only 2 left unredeemed and they still have like 80+ days to live on. I am down to 3K pts now so it is good to have 2+ months remain to work the balance back up to redeem the remaining 2 items.

One hotel billed us as a "Residential service' even though the bill at check out clearly showed the hotel's name and such. Once I earn enough points and after all the auto-redemption are done, I would try calling for manual redemption by offering them the PDF file of the bill that shows Hotel.
