This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

I will keep my two arrival+ cards. I got both cards AF waived at March & April.

The good part is now I can redeem cashback statement credit pretty easily, I can to redeem 10K point every other month.

Well, the 5% rebate applies to non travel redemptions now.

Worthless to me.

Barclay no fee card now [finally] has chip and still $25 min redemption!

The Arrival Minus (no fee) card is now a Chip card (even though the image doesn't show it):

http://www.findmybarclaycard.com/bar...avel-with-ease

and still shows $25 minimum redemption (vs $100 on Plus).

Looks like 10 to 5% redemption bonus is only other change?

Interesting. It looks like the minimum redemption changed to $100 only for the A+ AF card.

http://www.findmybarclaycard.com/bar...val-plus/terms

Also, it seems the newly-lowered 5% redemption bonus is still only for travel statement credits, not across the board as previously reported.

Aviators look to have Chip & PIN capability if you're looking to cancel A+

BTW, seems like Aviators (just got my USAir MC converted yesterday) arriving now with Chip + PIN capability (defaults to Chip & Signature) - plus many reports of annual renewals on those easily being waived by Barclays, so you've got PIN options out there...

probably just a coincidence, but I also just received a letter saying with $750 spend in 3 months I get a 5000 point bonus. I will grab the bonus right before the AF is due and then downgrade to no AF or cancel.

My initial take on this new offering by Barclay is:

1. Get Arrival + for $420 sign up and 2.1% ($100 min travel only) credit.

2. Month 11 cancel Arrival + after redeeming all points possible.

3. Get Arrive - for $210 signup bonus and 2.1% on travel but 1.1% on everything else. Still has no FTF and chip & pin (signature priority).

4. Wait for the next big signup bonus from other card issuers then switch spending to get that signup bonus (while keeping Arrival - for chip, no FTF, and no AF, and [for now "FICO® Score access is not a permanent feature of your account and may be removed at any time."] free FICO score. There is a 150 day "active" account requirement to get FICO score.

Will the No Fee Arrival card have the same chip and PIN support?

And it looks like the signup bonus is only for new accounts, not people who already have the Arrival Plus or want to downgrade from it?

Just want to confirm:

5 days ago, I redeemed 2500 points to get back $25 off an airline ticket. My statement date closes July 17th. I will receive the 250 points back upon statement closing date. Correct? If not, when will i get back my 250 points rebate?

You get them immediately after the redemption posts; you don't have to wait for a statement to close. If you go look online, you should already have them.

All yes per the web site.

My recent experience:

January 2015: had Arrival Plus, was also able to get Arrival no fee, with 20k sign-up, by transferring 1/2 credit limit to it (kept Plus). Feb: cancelled Plus at AF posting. March: instant rejection for re-applying for Plus. Customer service stated I had to pay off no fee, then, during reconsideration call, cancel while transferring credit limit to Plus - lost remaining point balance, then got 40k signup bonus on Plus (again).

YMMV.

Downgrading forgoes 20k sign-up for sure, so only consider if cancel/apply is not likely to be successful.

So, it depends how long you have it. I was being selfish in saying for a year since I just got it in June.
Well that sucks. I got the card in August 2014. So I guess I will be cancelling this come next month UNLESS they have my AF. If they do that, then it's still better than other 2% cards. Otherwise, no go.

This is not your first time to redeem points, right?

The 10% rebate is immediately returned after you redeem the 2500. The final redemption page literally shows you the math details - beginning bal minus redemption plus 10% rebate = new balance. It is hard to miss the action.
The reward history also shows the rebate, but it is in a lump sum for the statement cycle instead of individual activities.
