yeah but I didn't approve of the pull.

Main question is how many points will my credit score drop from this pull?

Does the decrease in points from my credit score depend on how much I requested for a credit limit increase ?

No the decrease has nothing to do with how much you requested.

It won't drop too many points.

Main question that you need to ask yourself, is if you're willing to go to war over this?
You'll have to call and call and argue and fight to get somebody to take that pull back.
If it was me, I'd do it. Because it's the principle of the thing.
But that's a decision you need to make for yourself.

Citibank always pulls a hard inquiry for credit line increases. You can read the creditboards credit forum for info on who pulls and who doesnt.

Good luck

It will bring down by about 10-15 points. Also, most CC companies do a Hard Pull when requesting an increase (just so u know)

the thing was that the first customer rep told me that they might not need to because they did a soft pull about a month ago. unfortunately everything we discussed didn't get through to the guy he transferred me to , anyway thank you, I'll see what can be done in a couple days.

No recourse really, and Creditors do not need permission to pull your credit anyway. Suck it up and move on, it's not the end of the world

Had a few hard pulls and my score didn't move much. But then there is the ever changing utilization etc do it is hard to tell but I would say less than 10.
But it all depends on which score, how high was it, how many pulls in the last few years, ..... And has the higher line an off setting effect?

Yeah, I don't think that's true. Every time that I've applied for a CLI, the CSR first checked if I could get one without a hard pull. Sometimes it goes through...Sometimes it doesn't.
If it doesn't, that's when she informs me that proceeding now would result in a hard pull, and whether I give my permission or not.

Why would you call for a CLI? Seriously?

I have requested CLI's online through citi and never ONCE gotten a hard pull. Calling the CSR's over the phone will get you hit with a hard pull.

You deserved it.

They haven't once given me a hard pull when I do CLI's online. Google it.

It'll go down for the inquiry, but depending on the increase, it'll go up due to more available credit and lower utilization.

Don't fret it. Most people on this board will go through a couple hard inquiries a year, and the majority of them see their credit scores remain roughly the same or even increase with more credit being allocated to them. As long as you continue to make on-time payments and apply for new cards sparingly, this really will not make a difference at all.

Edit: Plus, I see you said your score is 780. Truly, a drop in even 30 points (which won't happen from one hard inquiry) won't affect your credit worthiness in the slightest.

As many have said, it may not be worth your time. However, I've had no problem in the past removing unauthorized inquiries (one was DirecTV and the other was a duplicate pull from Chase). The hardest part will be navigating customer service to find the right department and person to speak with. Once you do, it won't be too hard to reverse it. They will hopefully have your call recorded or defer to your persuasive explanation.
