I currently have an AAA Cash Rewards Visa with BofA.

Is it possible to convert it to a Travel Rewards without going through the full application process?

Mainly, I'm trying to avoid a hard pull.

Thanks.

May not be possible-call them. But, why do you want to avoid a hard pull? How many have you had this year? A new app. will give you bonus miles/points and a conversion usually won't. I'd call them.

This will be shocking to this crowd, but I keep new card activity to the bare minimum. One hard pull in March when I got a car, prior to that one hard pull in July '12 when I got a DL Amex, and the previous hard pull to that was in 2008 (and the one before that had been in late 2005, and so on).

So, no, a hard pull won't hurt my score, but I'd rather avoid it if possible.

Call it my OCDish behavior, I guess.

I talked to BofA, the conversion is possible and it only involves a soft pull.

"That was easy"

Exactly what card are you converting to & what bonus did they promise you? Thanks.

To the Travel Rewards, I didn't ask about bonuses because when I called I just wanted to find out if it's possible to convert without a hard pull.

If I decide to do it, I'll ask about bonuses before pulling the trigger.

I've had reps make up reasons before, but it's always been possible to convert after a number of calls. However, you will likely forfeit any unredeemed points.

Regarding bonus, you don't get one for switching. But the Travel Rewards signup bonus isn't worth a hard pull.

I've had excellent reactions from BoA regarding PCing my cards... even get it done with the online chat rep. Super duper easy.

This card doesn't get used much, there's a minimal amount of points. And I agree on the bonus not being worth the hard pull, that's another reason I had to try to avoid it.

The reason for switching is the zero FTF with the Travel Rewards card, my other cards all have FTFs.

I got it done last night, over an online chat session, after the agent confirmed (again) it would be only a soft pull. Looking at my credit file this morning, I don't see any hard pulls.

Similar for me, opposite reasons. I upgraded from a BOA rewards card of some type (account is old) and I recently paid it off. Actually, the CSA conversation drifted from what I had called about to advising me I had a 3.9% BT offer. I knew already but I quietly let him share because he was in sales mode. When I sidestepped that, he offered to upgrade my card to something where I get cash back each quarter. I guess that's where the soft pull came in.

Since I want to retain this credit line for my credit score and I really don't want to utilize the 3.9% BT offer, I surrendered the nominal points for some future cash back. I want back a little of that interest I paid them when the balance was revolving monthly. I have other travel rewards cards that are fine.

A few months ago, I converted a BoA Hawaiian Airlines card to the Travel Rewards card.

I see the AAA Travel card has 3X points on travel, 2X on gas/grocery/drugstores and 1X on rest. If this can be combined with Platinum honors preffered status, will it not be travel (5.25%), G/G/D (3.5%) and 1.75% on rest?

Is it not better than Travel rewards card even though this card has several inclusions defined for travel category?
