If you want a shot at LH F more than two weeks out, you need to have Miles and More miles, and Barclays issues the LH/Miles and More credit card.

$400+ credit for travel with Barclay Arrival card. Thank you Waingro. Looking at all the freebies that come with their products, the cards are perfect for churning. If that is what's interests people here. |
I signed up for the Barclay's Arrival card and had no issues.
However when I signed up for the other Barclay's card, the US Air card that prompted a manual review. It wasnt an instant approval. And Im still waiting on the US Air card decision :( |
I have a 5k limit on my Sallie Mae, and My wife just got the Barclays Rewards, both instant approval.

Getting credit is like getting girls. The less you seem to care, the less you need them, the more offers and approvals you get. Don't get desperate or you will get nothing.

Was initially denied the Arrival card. Called the recon number. Had a pleasant 2-3 minute conversation with the CSR, was approved. |
Decided to get the card to see what the hype is all about. Hope I am not disappointed. The 2x miles per $ is an interesting value proposition.

My DH recently obtained the Barclay's US Airways MC. After having the card just a few days and making a few purchases he went had gone to the dentist as was going to use it there. The receptionist swiped the card and said that the message on her display said "expired." She tried again two more times after that & same message. So when DH got home he called Barclay's and they also told him that his card had expired and they will be sending him another. All of his charges had been minimal. No MS spending. At the time it showed up in online banking 3 pending charges for the dentist. It's been a few weeks & no card. Statement closed & bonus posted to account. Recent credit report shows the account is still active. We were going to close the account eventually so not sure if we'll call them for a replacement card or just call them in a few months to close.

That's weird. Do you churn cards? The originator of this post and others apparently have had problems with Barclays because of churning.

And I would wait more than just a few months before closing. I keep cards open at least 10 months (to indicate that I am actually using and trying the card out, and not just churning it). And in the case of this US Airways card you might want to wait until the 11-12 month mark (i.e., up until about the time when the annual fee for the following year comes up) because typically a 10,000-mile renewal bonus (even if you end up not renewing) will post into your account. |
Barclay's is appreciated for the free FICO score feature with the US Air MC. Nice...

Another nice thing about Barclays is that they offer the very-easy-to-get-a-bonus-for US Airways credit card: 35K miles after first spend. |
Barclaycard customer service woes
Is it me or is Barclay's customer service pretty much non-existent? I have one of their cards that gives points for purchases made. They promised me a few thousand points. After 4 different phone calls on 4 different occasions, the only conclusions that I can draw is that the ... in the call center are simply incompetent -- or they purposely lie. I've been promised time after time after time after time when the points will post. Last time it was, "Wait until your billing statement cycles, then you will see the points..."
GUESS WHAT HAPPENED? Now, I've been told (AGAIN) that I must wait another month, "and then the points will post..." I don't believe them, and I have a few questions: 1. Is this common - that the call center is always to no avail? 2. Where are the ... located? I can't make out the accent. 3. I always ask for a supervisor and after being put on hold for about 30 seconds I get a second ... that sounds just like the original .... Is this common? 4. Do they lie on purpose? Are they merely incompetent? Thanks for any information and thank you FT for letting me vent. |
I've received my first Barclay cc 1-2 months ago (I mostly bank with Chase). While I was skeptical about Barclay's products at the beginning, I am so far quite satisfied with their service. I had a small problem activating my tripit pro account but it was resolved within 24hours. So what you describe above is not the norm, at least according to my experience. Hope things get resolve quickly for you.
