Barclays is a tough one, they seem to have figured out a way to weed out us churners. I have been turned down 3 times over the last 7 months with them. Last time I called the recon line they said to get approved I would need to stop applying for other cards for about 12 months...not going to happen.
Data point 778 credit score current multiple personal and business accts with Chase Citi Amex US Bank Bank of America Barclays is the only bank I have been turned down by, I think I was black listed by them because I cancelled a couple cards quickly after I got the bonus. |
I have been denied by Barclays, then approved. My wife with a very short credit file has been denied, then approved. Just like with any other bank, they are not always consistent. There is a different credit analyst phone number, which I don't want to look for right now, PM me if you want. But seriously, you win some, you lose some; what you shouldn't lose is your sleep over little things.

Seriously, the Barclay apologists are starting to piss me off. Of course I know why Barclay is doing this from their perspective, but I don't give a damn. We don't need a sermon from the Barclay apologist of why they are doing this, what we need is creative solutions to how to get past their policy/restrictions.
This is FT, we do churning. Have to wait for 12mth without an app in order to get approved kills the churning. FYI, I have done 6mth without an app, and they won't budge. Having said that, I'll offer a constructive solution, although probably not the best solution. Since Barclay is so sensitive to recent inquiries, it seems the only way to get past them if you want their cards is to bump off all your hard pulls. Unfortunately, that cost money and time, so to each his own. |
I am feeling your pain! :D

I got instant approved for Arrival card, spent $1300 within several days, then a month later received a note from Barclay said....they will close my account because too many accounts (from chase, amex....etc) open in short period time.... they closed my account, took my points away.....i moved on to SPG Amex card.......and sleep well......will get them next time.

Was approved for a Barclay's US Airways MC 5k line today. 4 hard inquiries, 750 credit score.
Just a data point--I was denied about 6-9 months ago when I had a few more inquiries and a slightly lower score, figured I'd give it a shot after this Barclay's card is the only one I'm really interested in, especially since it's going away soon. I |

I had it with Barclays. Those .......s are just a bunch of idiots .....es/.......s, that's impossible to do any business with them.
I have been denied twice in a row, even skipped them in my last AoR. Not enough activity on your card, too many credit cards recently opened. Maybe you should wait for 12mths(!?!) and not open any cards and reapply... up yours dude!!! They even record down your calls, so that the next person you spoke to knows what you talked about previously! Hanging up and calling back doesn't seem to work. And those .......s won't even negotiate. I offered to cancel my existing card, but no they won't budge. Since my existing card has an AF, and I am not using it, I am canceling my one and only card with those SoB. Besides, I have another 20 tradelines in my report, so my AoA won't be affected. Maybe us flyertalkers should just boycott them entirely! If you get a signup bonus, fine. But sock drawer it and don't use it for normal spending (if flyertalkers have normal spending at all).

There may be a lot of CC churning on here but it's those that apply a modicum of intellect and patience to their churning that get what they want. Ranting and raving about how a bank is this that or the other just because they did their job seems to imply a high level of entitlement on your part and I'm struggling to understand the issue. If you don't like their rules then don't play their game - why would they change their rules for you? You wanted constructive suggestions? Move on to easier pickings or knuckle down and conform to their requirements. p.s I don't hold any Barclays cards and never have so I guess I'm not a Barclays apologist. |
Barclays makes one strange business decision. They approved me with a tiny credit limit for a USAir card. Even if I wanted to switch my spending and make them the primary card it could not handle my monthly expenses.
So, they ended up paying the sign up bonus to me, but have no chance to really earn my business. Shrug. There is still room in the tin of shame. |

Why Barclays? There are so many other better cards out there! I haven't applied for a Barclay's card so I don't carry one. But I am quite satisfied with Citi, Amex, and Chase and the financial services they offer that can be linked to the CC. So again, why Barclays?
