Emergency card issue for third party

An aunt of mine went on a trip to Italy where she got all her money and credit card stolen.
She is from Belgium and despite all her efforts has been unable to get a replacement card sent to her.

Does anyone know of a system by which I could get her a card? I am US based, have Amex Platinum, Diners club, and a few Visa signatures from Chase.

Any idea would be welcome.

I think others FTers may have additional ideas but how about buying two prepaid cards and fedex/DHL/UPS it to her (giving her the PIN on the phone). One card can stay in the hotel safe and one goes out siteseeing with her. Or see if she can buy prepaid cards there and wire her the money.

those are not usable outside the US

EDIT:
most prepaid cards are not usable outside the US, and it might be difficult to find one that is. Someone else mentioned AAA, which is a good idea.

Thanks I didnt realize that there are no pre-paid cards for use outside the US. To be sure that is still accurate, I would check with AAA or Travelex who I was told have Euro prepaid cards.

is she in a hotel? you might be able to ask the hotel if you can put her room on your credit card and if they can give her a cash advance also on your card charged to the room. at least she could get a couple hundred euros this way, if not consider going and purchasing euros here and overnighting them to the hotel

Just send via Western Union. She can pick up in Euros, put the money in the hotel safe and take out what she needs day-by-day.

Barring that, you might get Amex to overnight you a card in her name on your account. You could then overnight that to her.

We already did send money. The credit card is more of a necessity for a car rental she had planned to do and other expenses. Cash still runs the risk of being stolen and further bookings cannot be made with just cash.

Would Amex offer such a service? Immediately make a card in her name and have it sent overnight to me or even better to her?

You're in a hurry. You should call amex directly.

Yes, I'm a cynic but you've spoken with your aunt, right?

There is a common email scam where family or friends receive a request for help / funds and the supposed originator of the request is totally unaware.

I have spoken to her. I guess she's cutting short her trip and that makes the point a bit moot, but it has become a theoretical exercise that might be useful in case of future similar situations.

I've never actually used them but http://www.multicurrencycashpassport.com/ should work in Europe. It can also be loaded with euros, the currency of both Belgium and Italy.

They also have a BA one where you can compete for a trip, http://www.multicurrencycashpassport.com/baexecclub/

This is however not a credit card and where the distinction is important it may not work. I've also been told that the exchange rates are higher than many other services, but that may not be an issue here.
