Self-taught Newbie needs advice HELP!!
I recently found this forum, and really enjoy it...so I figured I'd throw out the following:
Am I applying for too many cards, too few, or just the right amount?
Please assume I'm not concerned with hits to my credit score...only with keeping the applications approved, and the cc companies from blacklisting me.
Here it is. Tear me up:

Dear CBC,
IMHO, reason you have not gotten responses to your very long post is that it is just too darn long and too darn general.
FTers are very happy to help folks out--but you have to do some work yourself.
Read some of the threads that cover the many topics you asked about and then see if you still have all these questions.
Remember: search is your friend.

I've revised my post to get more to the point of what I need (and, cut out a lot of "fluff').
I've done a fair amount of reading on the site, but, still can't get a full grasp on what is "too much", and whether i run the risk of getting a bad name with the cc companies...

Ok I'll bite, here's what many poeple feel is a safe pattern and will continue to get them approvals. Apply 3 or 4 cards every 90plus days.Spread the app's out over different banks, don't push Chase too hard.I like to keep Chase to only two app's per year. Many people do more and are successful.ymmv

My credit score is 790ish, wife is 760ish. We've each applied for 6-10 cards in the past 15 months, usually about 1-2 months apart, have not been turned down yet. Did have one or two cases where we had to reallocate credit lines from one card to another. Wild guess is 45% Chase, 25% Amex, 20% Citi, 10% Barclay's. I'll know it's too much when we start getting turned down. I wonder if Amex even does credit pulls for existing customers. I mean, the credit pulls must cost them something, no?

Probably irrelevant compared to the loss they could incur from extending credit to somebody who just maxed out 6 other non-Amex cards cause they lost their job and are now a bad credit risk. I also bet they get a pretty steep discount from the credit bureau.

I suppose I could "wing it"...and just keep applying until they cut me off...
