Self-taught Newbie needs advice HELP!!
I recently found this forum, and really enjoy it...so I figured I'd throw out the following:
Am I applying for too many cards, too few, or just the right amount? Please assume I'm not concerned with hits to my credit score...only with keeping the applications approved, and the cc companies from blacklisting me. Here it is. Tear me up: .....................................Date approve /// Spend amt /// Date spend ///reward rec'd?/// date cancel Wife Gold AMEX Business 5/2012 $2,000.00 7/25/2012 Yes 11/2012 Me chase INK CASH Business 6/2012 $0.01 7/23/2012 Yes 12/2012 Me Starwood Amex Pers 12/2012 $5,000.00 12/20/2012 Yes 3/2013 Wife Citi Thank you Pers 8/2012 $3,000.00 10/15/2012 Yes 2/2013 me Hilton Amex Pers 11/2012 $750.00 11/2012 Yes wife Citi Visa AA Pers 6/2012 $1,500.00 7/2012 Yes me Citi Visa AA Pers 2/2012 $2,000.00 6/2012 Yes wife Chase Visa Disney 12/2012 $500.00 12/2012 Yes me Delta Amex Pers 7/2012 $1,000.00 8/2012 Yes me Amex Bus Gold (fedex) 8/2012 $5,000.00 10/2012 Yes wife Starwood Amex Pers 12/2012 $5,000.00 1/2013 Yes me Visa Hilton Pers 12/2012 $1,000.00 12/2012 Yes wife Mastcard AA Bus 12/2012 $3,000.00 1/2013 Yes me Mastercard AA Bus 12/2012 $3,000.00 2/2013 Yes me Chase Visa Disney 12/2013 $500.00 1/2013 Yes wife Bus Delta Amex 2/2013 $500.00 2/2013 Yes me Starwood BUS Amex 2/2013 $5,000.00 2/2013 Yes wife Chase INK BOLD 3/2013 $5,000.00 3/2013 me Chase INK BOLD 3/2013 $5,000.00 |
Any word, at least, if my pattern of opening cards puts me in jeopardy of getting blacklisted or banned by any issuers?

Dear CBC,
IMHO, reason you have not gotten responses to your very long post is that it is just too darn long and too darn general. FTers are very happy to help folks out--but you have to do some work yourself. Read some of the threads that cover the many topics you asked about and then see if you still have all these questions. Remember: search is your friend. |

I've revised my post to get more to the point of what I need (and, cut out a lot of "fluff'). I've done a fair amount of reading on the site, but, still can't get a full grasp on what is "too much", and whether i run the risk of getting a bad name with the cc companies... |
any chance you could get rid of all the extra line breaks and organize the card by issuer then person?

Ok I'll bite, here's what many poeple feel is a safe pattern and will continue to get them approvals. Apply 3 or 4 cards every 90plus days.Spread the app's out over different banks, don't push Chase too hard.I like to keep Chase to only two app's per year. Many people do more and are successful.ymmv

My credit score is 790ish, wife is 760ish. We've each applied for 6-10 cards in the past 15 months, usually about 1-2 months apart, have not been turned down yet. Did have one or two cases where we had to reallocate credit lines from one card to another. Wild guess is 45% Chase, 25% Amex, 20% Citi, 10% Barclay's. I'll know it's too much when we start getting turned down. I wonder if Amex even does credit pulls for existing customers. I mean, the credit pulls must cost them something, no?

OP, you need to spend more time reading, and less time jumping in knee deep this quickly. |
see if you went to credit card churning university like the rest of us you would have been so much better prepared...
