Spouse Credit Card

I have a CSP, Freedom and Marriott Rewards cards and I have also gotten additional card in my wife's name.

Does it make sense that in her credit card report these cards are listed as well even though I was the one who applied for these cards through my SSN.

Can I apply for another Chase Freedom in her account? Or do I have to cancel her additional card and then apply for one? And will I still get the promotional offer I apply for her?

I rarely put my spouse as an AU on my CC's & I do not have my spouse put me as an AU on hers. The one exception is I had her add me as an AU on two of her retail CC's opened in 1984/1985. That helped increase my average of accounts. Although I read that adding AU's does not increase FICO's due to past abuses, it helped my scores in my case. We have very deep, established credit histories since wife & I are in our 50's.

We mostly have CC's in just our names. I did put my wife on my Ink Bold to help with min spend on that card and biz cards do not affect FICO's. (the inquiry is on the credit report (CR )but the biz cards do not show up on personal CR.

Bottom line: We each apply for own own CC's. Why not? Each can have our own rewards!

So I wonder why those credit cards show up on her account. Maybe I should contact the Transunion/Experian etc. and correct that.

The credit bureaus usually use (matching) addresses to add AU's to the reports.

I used to sign up cards in my name, and add my wife as AU on all the cards (before I found FT). All these cards where she is an AU show up on her credit history. Though, this is history now ever since I found FT

Spouse Credit Card

Should I remove her from the account so that I can apply for a separate card. Will I still get the bonus.

Credit reports will distinguish between Authorized User accounts and Primary Cardholder accounts. Being an AU won't prevent you from getting a new card or a bonus.

I think AU accounts are not supposed to effect your score, and I know from experience that Chase would not apply my wife for a card because her file was too thin, even though she was an AU on my Chase account for ~5 years.

Spouse Credit Card

Ok I spoke with Chase and they confirmed to me that the reason she is having my cards show up on her report is because she is an Authorized user. It will take a month and a half before it is removed from credit report.

Why would you not want these other cards to show up on your wife's credit report? Generally it's beneficial to have more lines of credit available, unless perhaps it severely impacts your average age of accounts (AAoA).

Chase themselves will know whether they've already issued a card to your wife based on their own internal data records. They don't rely on external credit reports for such info.

yes but I can wait a while and then apply plus her aoa went from 35 to 29 when I applied for a new chase card.

I don't intend on hijacking this thread but if this guy gets an additional card for his spouse as an AU and this is part of a promotion (lets say 50,000 points), will his spouse also get the full promotion if the qualifications are met (spending minimums, etc.)?

The spouse needs to apply with their own SSN. The spending from the AU will count toward the primary card holders bonus and rewards.
