This seems like the best place to discuss this...

The Wallaby Card / walla.by people have finally released something: an app that simulates the card.

You tell the app about all of your rewards cards, then it uses GPS to figure out where you are and tell you which card to use.

And - I hate to say it - it's mostly useless.

I added 11 cards and picked some random local businesses. Here are the issues:
  1. There's no way to value a point or mile. Everything is apparently equal value.
  2. There's no way to tell it about any targeted promotions you have.
  3. The results are often inaccurate anyway. (Three of my cards simply say no rewards are available at all... plus it told me to use a Marriott card at a Comfort Inn)
  4. If there's a tie, it seems to be picking the earliest alphabetically and calling it best, rather than giving all tied options.
I was really hoping this would be great. The card itself isn't necessary; I'm ok carrying a large wallet if the app can tell me definitively which card to use. But I don't trust it at all. And therefore, I won't be able to trust their actual card if it's ever released anyway.
