Getting a replacement SSN card (for verification)

Chase asked me to send it to them on a reconsideration call and said she'd recommended me for approval but that the system rejected it until they get supporting documents--at which point I will be approved.

I'm fairly certain that the card exists and is at my parents house, but they're in Italy on vacation, and I'm not going to wait a couple weeks for them to get back--especially when it may not actually exist.

That said, it seems rather simple to get a replacement with the form and a Passport proving both identity and citizenship, but my question is do they provide the replacement card on site or does it take time to process and then they mail it to you? I am in the DC area, so if there's an office here that does them on site, I'd be interested in going to that one (as opposed to the one in Arlington within walking distance if they don't).

TIA

They mail it and it takes 10 business days. Also keep in mind there's a lifetime limit on the number of replacement cards you can order.

Thanks. This will be my first and hopefully last replacement card.

Also, are you sure there's no temp card given in the office? A little interweb research and it seems like there's possibility of this...

I've gotten 2 replacements, both times it's been mailed to me.

Will chase take your passport as documentation?

The one time I had to do it, they gave me a "receipt" that stated I would be receiving it, but stressed it was not a legally acceptable substitute. Who knows what Chase would say?

(Chase won't take the passport?)

Lifetime limit is 10 replacement cards.

DMV did not accept a receipt as a valid substitute for the card itself. Of course the DMV is not a bank, different rules. One is worrying about illegal immigrants, the other about terrorists.

You can ask for a SSN verification while in the office. This is different than the receipt. Most jobs accept it until the card comes in the mail so it may work for CC companies too.

+1 - Any Social Security office can issue this and it's acceptable as a "card."
