on whether you should give him cash and take the points? If you think you'll use them for premium travel and won't get equivalent pts another way, then it's definitely worth the cash. But only you know your cash-on-hand and travel plans.
Couldn't he transfer directly to your UA account, rather than a Chase account? You could use them right away then. Commits you to star alliance, but that's okay in my opinion.

He doesn't have the CSP, only the Freedom. I also don't have the CSP yet, but it's on my list. I have the cash, that's not a problem. It seems like, as long as he's not marking it up (which he isn't) when he transfers it to me, I literally have nothing to lose, becuase I could just cash it out if I don't use it. Right?
