Getting to Machu Picchu Using CO

My friend is going to Machu Picchu and is flying out of MIA into LIM and then on to Cusco. She has to change to another airline in Lima to get to Cusco but I forget which one.

The question is can her luggage be checked in at EWR directly to this other airline to Cusco? She has an 8 hour layover and she doesn't want to have to tend to her luggage in the Lima Airport

Thanks a lot

What is the other airline? CO has baggage interline agreements with most carriers but if it is a small operation i nPeru, then maybe no. Also, if clearing customs happens in LIM then she'll need to recheck anyway.

She will have to clear customs in LIM with the luggage and then recheck luggage to the next airline for the flight to CUZ. She will also have to queue up to pay a departure tax of about $6.00, and then queue up for security screening. Sounds like a bear but it's pretty fast.

The choices would be :
Star
Lan Peru
Taca Peru
Aviandina (May not exist anymore)

My guess is that they are talking about Star, they operate a 737-200 and some BAe 146s

Cusco is a bear of an aiprort to fly in and out of. Picture dropping through heavy clouds covering the top of a barrel (mountains), into the barrel, then down to 'ground' level (12,000 feet?),then flying down a valley, doing a 180 degree turn at the end, and finally a high speed landing, due to the altitude.

Take off is even more fun.

The Taca flights seem to be operated by AA. I thought that interesting.

I recently returned from Machu Picchu and had a 7 hour layover in Lima. We were not allowed to check in our bags for the the connecting flight to Cusco. If she does not want to haul her luggage around there are luggage lockers on the first floor near the domestic arrivals area. Here goes a link: http://www.limaeasy.com/lima_info/li...rport.php#maps

Just took this flight the other week. That turn at the end was a new experience for me.

On the LIM - CUZ route, try and grab a window seat on the left side of the plane. If you have a clear day, the mountain views are fantastic.

Is this all on one ticket? If so, probably yes.

Did this in December, with SFO-IAH-LIM on CO, and LIM-CUZ on LAN. Was no sweat (except the fact that it took forever). Lima airport, no real problem, just leave yourself enough transit time.
