My friend is going to Machu Picchu and is flying out of MIA into LIM and then on to Cusco. She has to change to another airline in Lima to get to Cusco but I forget which one.

The question is can her luggage be checked in at EWR directly to this other airline to Cusco? She has an 8 hour layover and she doesn't want to have to tend to her luggage in the Lima Airport
