On our way to LAS last month, my boyfriend left his ID in our car... at home. We got to the airport and both CO and TSA informed us that he would not be let through security, under any circumstances. They claimed that he would only be allowed to fly without ID if he were taking the return segments - on outbound flights, ID was required regardless of the explanation. In the end, I paid $75 to change his reward flights, sent someone back to our house to get the ID, and waited three hours at LAS for him to arrive on the next flight.
I have since seen many examples of people flying both outbound and return without ID. He would have dealt with secondary screening, interviews, etc. if it had meant he was able to take the original flights... that was not even on offer at BWI.

This fits the TSA's "policy of unpredictability" - change, bend, or make up rules on the spot, and call it part of standard operating procedures.

Mrs. Sciflyer lost her DL in Miami once, and talked her way through MIA security using a university ID. We explained that the requirement was for a "Government issued ID" and the University of Texas was a state institution, right? The TSA screener said, "Well, I guess that makes sense" and let her through with no additional screening.

I've been lucky at ATL to fly through security with just my credit card and a printout of my passport and explaining the lost-id at a club the previous night (tsk tsk long story)... I had to fly for business and the establishment was only open thu-sat; hence had to wait a week to get it back!
The TSA agent was quite understanding and perhaps the jacket/office wear helped out as well.
Other times, i've used my Univ of Texas ID as well! I am surprised some one else has done that too.
(Officially for TSA, as I recall, since it doesnt have a birthdate, it does not qualify fully - but with another form of id, the two can double for a License/pp)
Good luck!
