Changes in group flights

Hey,

I'm new to this forum so I'm sorry if there's already some thread on this. I searched and didn't find any.

The thing is, a travel agency booked me a group flight on Continental and I need to change the return date to a week later. They told me I need to talk directly to Continental about this.

So my question is: does anybody know Continental policies on this matter? Do you think they can change my flight?

Thanks in advance!

Pedro

Your travel agent told you to deal directly with CO? Sounds like a lazy travel agent, of which there are sadly too many.

I'm confused. Did you book a set of tickets as a group or have you chartered a Continental flight (you mention group flight)?

I didn't handled it directly. I just know the travel agency bought tickets for a group of people (including me) and according to them they benefited from a group discount by continental (they said it is a group ticket).
And now I need to change my flight (the return date) while the rest of the people keep their ticket.

Hope it's clearer now.

Thanks for the fast replies

I think when you call Continental (call the Group Works number,....not the general number), what will happen is that they will remove the discount from your ticket and ask you to pay the difference in fare.

They may not do this, if your group fare has passed a certain deadline before which they allow changes in tickets.
Also, if the minimum number of people required for the group discount must include your name to fulfil the criteria, they may be unwilling to do that change.

group tickets are pretty flexible for changing things around, but they have deadlines, minimum # passenger requirements, etc.

Please let us what you find. Thanks.

Yes, your travel agent is indeed lazy as pointed out above. He/She needs to advise and take care of this...not you. They are getting paid to do this.

Thanks for the replies! I'll see what CO say about this.

I've talked to the travel agency again and they called Continental Groupworks who told them that no changes were allowed in the ticket.

Yet I went to the continental stand at the airport and they told me that after the flight started (I assume after I check in for departure) I can change the return date, subject to a fee of 250$ and availability of seats. Can anyone confirm this, or does anyone ever tried it?

Thanks,

Pedro

No, the CO Agent informed you incorrectly, or you mixed the two options.

At check-in (24 hours before your flight) you can change your flight to another one that is within (+/-) 12 hours of your original departure. That option will cost you $50, assuming you're not a Platinum or Gold Elite.

The $250 only comes in if you are changing your return date beyond the timeframe above, and you can do this anytime.

Not really. The OP is talking about changing the return date by a week. It has nothing to do with the SDC program.

And the OP must have begun the trip (outbound segment completed, I believe, not just checked in) or the entire ticket re-prices. And since they are part of a group the group rules take priority.

That's what he told me. Before the flight begins the whole ticket would change and that could drastically change the price (and in my case it's impossible because of the group thing).

After the flight begins I can change the departure by paying 250$. So this is usual right?

It will be $250 PLUS any difference in fares for the return segment which may be quite significant. And, yes, it is normal for an restricted fare.
