EWR Comp Hotel - Warning

I was on CO88 last week which was delayed in PEK for mechanical reasons. I missed my connection in EWR and CO put me in the Holiday Inn North. Upon check in they asked for a credit card for deposit. A few days ago my CC had a 65$ charge from the Holiday Inn Newark for a hotel stay.

My emails to them have gone unanswered. Is CO likely to help in this situation?

CALL THE HOTEL TOMORROW and speak with the GM. If they are no help, dispute the charge! I am not sure that CO will get in the middle of that. The hotel should know you were a stranded pax and that CO put you up there.

Have you called the hotel itself?

I was on the flight in order to get back to my dying father (he was 47). He has since passed, and its been a very chaotic few days. Things are finally starting to slow down enough that I would be able to make the phone call tomorrow. I was only able to send a quick email a few days ago.

Sorry for your loss.

A phone call to the hotel would be the best thing to get this sorted out. Speak with the GM or accounting supv.

SirJman, were you given a voucher to hand over or part of a larger group and you signed in?

I know this may not matter, but CO does offer bereavement fares. See here for details. It is even applicable after the fact if you did not book it in advance.

Cheers for the info! I wish I saw that before because I ended up taking a horrible connection (ICN-PEK-EWR-DTW) in order to save 100$ (over ICN-LAX-IAH-DTW) and it would have put me above the 1000$ threshold therefore being cheaper than what I chose!

Does CO transfer miles upon death of a OnePass member?

Was it an actual voucher or a distressed passenger discount code? The price you've noted is what is usually given as the distressed passenger rate.

It was a comp voucher. I misconnected due to a mechanical delay out of PEK.

Yes but you will have to fax in a copy of the Death Cert and also something to the extent that CO isnt responsible if it gets contested (or was that AA). I had to move miles from CO,AA and DL after my fathers passing a couple of yrs ago
