The rest of D is primarily used for other internationals. Check-in and baggage would be interesting. Would they utilize D or C since those 3 gates are closer to C ticketing and baggage then they are to D. Also, I wonder if D still has that extra baggage carousel for those that did not need to go through US CBP.

On a different note, has there been any mention of CO passengers being able to use UA check-in kiosks and vice versa similar to what CO and NW did a few years ago?

D1-D3 are physcially part of Terminal C, and were built when C was built, not when D was built. Many years ago before D was built I believe those three gates were used for arriving CO international flights, and they connected to a FIS on the lower level under that gate area. When D was opened they were connected to D and its FIS, and renumbered to D gates from C gates. They now connect to the FIS between Terminals D and E, and are often used by COEX flights arriving from Mexico. Unlike the C gates, which are all leased by CO, D 1-3 and that section of the building remain under the control of the HAS and are technically shared gates, although I don't think I have ever seen a non-CO aircraft parked there. Before CO opened Terminal E, those gates were often used for mainline domestic and international CO flights; I've flown 737s out of those gates to places like OKC and AUS, as well as ERJs more recently to LBB and MAF.

Prior to E, I also remember using D1-3 to depart on flights but never to deplane. I remember a number of CO's LatAm flights departing and arriving from those gates, even before those circle windows were ever frosted and could watch passengers arrive and head towards the old D Customs and Immigration area. Now, I rarely see them used and if there was space for UA, and possibly AC, to move it would be those gates. Otherwise, if would be a fun bus ride all the way to A!

I've heard Terminal D in Houston.

Really...wow...that would be quite a surprise. My guess is that they'd check in at C--there would be plenty of room where the elite check-in used to be (or B I suppose...but less likely) because I can't see there being room in D for UA checkin--especially given the way check in is set up for rotating international carriers to share check in space.

It would also surprise me to see the UA gates in A just be left open and waiting for some new carriers to come in... like VX or who knows what low fare/cost carrier.... I can't see that as being something desired by CO.

If UA doesn't use C, then there is a new set of check in desks that LH and EK uses, and so did SQ, but now have moved to the main check in area. The new check in desks are where the old international arrivals exit used to be. Rather simple with check in desks, a conveyor belt, and overhead monitors, nothing like at the main check in counters.

That's what I was wondering as well. But now, I seriously don't know if VX is as interested in starting IAH. I guess they might since they could compete with 2 *A carriers on IAH-SFO and IAH-LAX and provide another alternative to Australia on VX/VA via LAX.

I didn't know about those changes in the checkin area of D...I haven't been through there in ages as most of my int flights have been on UA or CO for the last couple of years. I think it would be nice to see the LH checkin area along with the UA checkin area where the old elite checkin was in terminal C entrance. This would be nice given the new joint venture.

I don't suspect that VX wants to rush into Houston too soon...I suspect that they want to fly there eventually....but that is probably years down there road most likely. Of course there is also the SWA service to the Bay Area too from Houston...not sure if there is anything non-stop though.

If I remember correctly, I think UA does ground handling for LH at IAH. I thought UA also did AC as well. I only found out about that new check in area when I was trying to find their check in counters, since I was at the airport and had watched it land but could not find where people were checking in. Again if UA utilized D1-3, and check in was at D, that would be a rather long walk than if CO provided UA check in counters at C.

Has there been any mention of the check-in kiosks being able to allow UA-ticketed customers to check-in at CO kiosks and vice versa? On a bit of a side note, it would be nice if CO's kiosks spit out quasi-cardstock rather than those flimsy pieces of paper. Does UA's kiosks print still out on cardstock or flimsy paper?

I seriously doubt WN would want to do split ops in Houston especially with the new terminal at HOU and being much closer to Downtown. Yes, VX in a few years. If the move does happen, I wonder if B6 would reconsider IAH and move out of HOU?

I have a sense that both UA and AC will move into C at IAH, I do not know why I think this, but I have gut feeling.

I asked one of the IAH UA gate agents today if they were moving and he said that they would be moving to C. I asked when and he didn't give a specific date that I could make out... it can't be soon enough for me ;)

Any thoughts on PHX? Would love to see CO move into T4. I cant stand T2. I often fly the redeye to EWR and everything is closed by 8pm usually. Would be nice to have club access regardless of how nice the club is.

Does anyone know what is going on in GIG? CO is now listed on terminal 1 on wikipedia (the only place I could find), but all *A airlines are in terminal 2. I am flying there in Feb, but have not been there in a couple years.

I am taking US, which is listed on terminal 2, but I am meeting a couple friends that will be flying in on CO arriving about the same time. Would be nice if they arrived in the newer terminal, because the old one gives Brazil a terrible first impression!

I just remember terminal 1 being very dingy and old looking.

Wikipedia is right, CO operates at T1 in GIG, next to DL and AA, while all other *A carriers are on T2 (UA, US, TP and future member JJ).

I flew GIG-IAH last week and when I asked a couple of agents at check-in they told me they will move to T2 sometime in 2010, but there is no confirmed date yet, since T2 is currently full and T1 is undergoing renovation. My guess is that CO will not move to T2 before mid-2010.

It looks like CO will be abandoning the A gates at DEN: http://www.denverpost.com/business/ci_13715258

UA has an RCC over at T2. Is it closed by the time of the redeye?

The article states early 2010.
