Noob needs help
Hi Guys,
Hope you can help, I have been browsing both CO.com and this site, yet i'm still in a muddle. Can somebody please help?
I'm starting out building up my CO miles, currently have 27k, I always fly the route BRS-EWR EWR-BRS, the question is as follows;
a) How may points would it take to get an upgrade?
b) How many points would it take to exchange for a free coach class flight?
Like I said i'm new, can you please try to keep the abbreviations to a minimum (I think thatis what is confusing me!)

a) It is a Series 6 upgrade and will be 20,000 points each way in most cases, plus a cash co-pay based on the fare class of the original ticket. Details on the fees can be found here.
b) It is a Series 6 travel reward and will cost 50,000 miles r/t in coach (plus taxes), assuming you can find availability. If not and you choose to go for the increased availability seats it will cost 100K r/t in coach. You can mix and match rewards in each direction so you can fly Y going and BF coming home or something like that and just add the two half reward amounts to get to the appropriate total.

Depending on the route, when you want to go and your elite status, free FC tickets are hard to come by. Some people think miles are best used for upgrading.

If you use points to upgrade then you are paying for the ticket and therefore earning even more miles towards future travel. Plus the mileage deduction at 20k points each way is extremely cheap for anywhere in Europe IMHO.
