Hope you can help, I have been browsing both CO.com and this site, yet i'm still in a muddle. Can somebody please help?

I'm starting out building up my CO miles, currently have 27k, I always fly the route BRS-EWR EWR-BRS, the question is as follows;

a) How may points would it take to get an upgrade?
b) How many points would it take to exchange for a free coach class flight?

Like I said i'm new, can you please try to keep the abbreviations to a minimum (I think thatis what is confusing me!)
