Continental Pay By Weight

Continental needs to be proactive and stop beating around the bush and be the first to implement Continental Pay By Weight(CPBW). Basically, you will make a reservation w/ a price similar to today's system, then upon arrival at the airport, you and your luggage will be weighed and you will either 1) be charged extra for being 'over weight' or receive a refund for being 'under weight'. All of the BS charges for extra luggage, etc etc are removed and CO will be better able to estimate a flight's fuel consumption, profitability based on weight. Give me one second to put on my flame resistant overalls....:D

No. You only get charged double per pound for being over the weight, for not estimating properly. However, if you're under the weight limit, then you don't have to pay extra.

Maybe it can be like The Price is Right where if you get closest to your weight without going over (under) you get an automatic upgrade to F.

With a Houston based airline this should make a massive amount of money.

With that comment, so begs the challenge....which CO hub has the most POS to gain CO the most revenue should a fee like this be added?

I weigh 150 lbs wet so I say go ahead and add the fee...:P

If CO rarely enforces the 2 seat rule for those who dont fit in one seat, how are you going to get them to weigh people. Plus, they'd have to have exceptions for those of terrorist orientation because I'm sure its against the Koran to be weighed outside of a mosque

Ugh. This would be easy normally, but estimating my weight on a return trip from MSY can be tricky.

I'll just eat lots of gassy food days before so the methane will make me lighter! :D

CLE only loses because of its small (and ever decreasing) population ...but if we're on a per capita estimation we got the highest fatass coefficient. :)

Great idea! The regular ticket price can be charged for the mean passenger weight for that flight. The further you are from the mean weight, the more you ticket price is adjusted up or down.

Totally OK with me, but do I get some kind of $$ credit since I weigh in the double digits? Or do I get to bring 2 extra carry-ons...
Just to be fair, of course.

Also wondering what your double ** is all about, BigFly?

To maximize profits, let's set the base price on a passenger weighing 99 lbs, US Customary Units. All others pay $1.23 / additional pound (funny number includes taxes, fees, etc.) There will be a scale installed in floor at the bording area. As you board the plane, any passenger weighing more than 99 lbs. will need to swipe their credit card to pay the additional fare. (I'm joking about this plan)
