This is one CO enhancement I would NOT support. It's hard enough to find paid last minute BF seats.

Wouldn't be a problem if they did this as Battlefields rather than EUA. If you haven't bought the last minute BF ticket at boarding time, I'd say you are out of luck

Its a moot point anyway, not gonna happen.

The OP actually is correct. On January 15, CO is installing international first class cabins on all 767's and 777's, similar to what EK has on the 345. There will be 6 F seats on the 764, 3 F seats on the 762, and 12 F seats on the 777's. CO also will add BF seats, reduce the number of coach seats, and allow complementary elite upgrades to BF from B fares and higher. This is the compromise that CO developed regarding true lie-flat seats: since Jeff Smisek wasn't crazy about the idea of a lie-flat J product, CO will keep the current BF seat but offer true lie-flat in F for those passengers who are willing to pay a substantial premium over J. Larry Kelner decided that only B fares and higher would be eligible for the new complementary upgrades in order to protect revenue.

In conjunction with the introduction of international F, CO will build international F lounges at its hubs in Newark and Houston. CLE will see an expanded P Club with an area dedicated to international F customers. The expansion of the CLE P Club will coincide with the launch of CLE-AMS and CLE-TLV service in June 2008.

Thank you CO 1E for demystifying this issue. This is excellent news. Nice to see LK is on top of things. Some more questions:

How long will the fleet upgrade take?

What will be the mileage redemption levels in the new F (both standard and sleazy)?

What will be the mileage earning levels in the new F?

Will double upgrades be allowed?

What other amenities will be available--pre flight dining, boarding escort, pajamas, car service, inflight F&B, massage, etc.?

Will there be a curtain separating F from BF? Separate lavatory? How many?

Will BF be rebranded? Can't have 2 products with "First" in their name...

Where will the crew rest be situated?

And last but not least...will CO's new F be better than United's?

My head is giddy with questions...

Don't be too giddy - the post was humorous, not factual Like I wrote to our Delta FT colleagues who were beginning to salivate over free CO upgrades:

Ain't gonna happen

CO1E: That's a huge development. Right around the corner and nary a press release or a leak...I take it the 752's will not be refurbished for F.

It is a little odd, if this information is in fact accurate, that they have decided to go three-class, since most carriers have found that their International FC is a loss-leader and that the real money in overseas travel is in high-end C or J.

Remains to be seen if CO can generate the kind of additional revenue an international FC needs to make in order to justify itself.

I heard from a very reliable source that this Houston-based company won the contract for the FC cabin add-on to the widebody fleet. They're welding on the new sections right at this moment.

But I am surprised no one speculated on my esoteric question...would CO's F be better than UA's F??
