International BF upgrades... Complimentary

Question oh wise FT'ers,

On good authority from a source within CO, I heard that starting on 1/15, international upgrades (no matter where the destination) will become complimentary based on the usual credentials.

Can anyone confirm or deny this? Any whispers of this on flights or from ground-crew?

Thanks for the info!

I would think that would further dilute the value of onepass miles. For example, you could EUA your way to BF seat to Asia instead of using 50,000 miles. Also, what about the "service charge" CO collects on certain BF upgrades?

Doesn't make good business sense to me. In an industry that already has razor thin margins, why would CO elect to give up revenue??

Don't hold your breath.

haha, this would be wonderful! I mostly travel internationally. Since I own my own business, all my travel is in Y. For me UA's E+ would make me prefer UA over CO. But since I'm in CLE I'm kindof stuck with CO.

I suppose they could make it a battlefield kindof thing, then they'd be sure those seats are going to go unsold, then upgrade.

Oh if only it were true

Let me think about that one...

No.

I suggest you let your source know s/he needs to become more familiar with the details and not get them muddled up when leaking information.

Maybe we'll see same day upgrades to BF along the usual lines...but EUA like upgrades? No. Never.

Maybe this ties into those upgrades on all SkyTeam members for Delta elites?

If this were true, it would be a good way to get cheapskates like me to buy higher fare classes when traveling internationally.

Alas, there is no way this is happening.

This would make sense since CO will be taking delivery of the
rumored 773 ER's on Jan 10th
with more BF seat's ( Lie Flat )
thus giving more chance for complimentary upgrades
ha ha

Sure: mileage and co-payments where appropriate!
