missing upgrade puzzle
I'm NW Gold, flying 12/26 at 11:55 pm CO 208 PDX-IAH and 12/27 IAH-DFW.
I've already been upgraded on the IAH-DFW leg.
I'm still in coach PDX-IAH... yet availability is R8, and we're about 54 hours from departure (within the 3 days for Gold upgrades)
Is this a lag, or is there a problem? I've had problems with CO upgrades in the past... something about my NW number matching a CO OP number beginning "NW..."

So what is my best strategy at the 24 hour mark? Should I check in exactly at 24 hours, or am I better off waiting til the last minute to check in?

There is currently no way to check for F inventory availability on CO.
Your best bet is to do OLCI as early as possible. The chance of an F seat opening up between then and the 3-hr mark (when all remaining seats are typically cleared for upgrades), and a lower-level elite checking in just at the right time to snag it are pretty low. And even if it did happen, you'd have little to no way to "beat" that other guy, since it's purely based on luck as, like I said, there is no way for the public to identify when F inventory opens.

thanks again - I'll do that tonight. Unless things change dramatically, looks like I'll get a BF UG.

The only way to get a BF Upgrade on a domestic flight is if the aircraft is either a 777 or 767 or 752. As those are the Only CO aircraft that have BizFirst seating.
Battlefield is (different opinions) but generally is when you have already taken your seat in the back and the GA comes on board calls your name out and hands you a new BP with a seat up front.
If you get UPed before your flight that is simply what it is being Upgraded, since you'll probably be on some type of 737 it wont be BF but reg CO 1st. A very Big difference in the type of seat and pitch (amount of room between your seat and the one in front of you). This also applies to the 753s, which have reg 1st and not BF.

Did I somehow give the impression that I am expecting a BusinessFirst upgrade on a domestic route, rather than a battlefield upgrade to domestic first? Apparently "BF" has a different meaning over here in CO forum land than in NW forum land.
