My only complaint had nothing to do with the DO proper but with the Double Tree. Worse hotel bed I've sleped (or lack there of) in years and the AC unit was loud. (I don't want to hear any more cracks about me be on the unworthy 6th floor from you 7th floor people.)

That the "news" is polluting all the threads on this sub-forum. Mod: couldn't we PLEASE just consolidate them into one big master thread??

And I thought it was just my room! Good to know it was the entire hotel...my room looked like it had been through a hell...definitely needs some renovating!

First time SSSS long time flyer as well. The screeners were great though! We were having a great laugh about it actually. The screeners were laughing as they looked at my phone, my wallet...and then discovering that I had no bags to search! Took all of maybe an extra 15 seconds...

No laughing or smiles for me; they were quite serious. No cutting either; I was pulled aside and then made to wait in a regular line. They made me wait for several minutes and glared at me when I asked to keep my wallet, etc. in sight. What gives? Maybe it was because I was one of the first through?

Their attitude makes me realize why people really dislike the TSA. As if being randomly selected makes someone a big threat and worthy of an even more arrogant attitude. What's with the stupid act of putting you in the box thingy and then taking you out a minute later?

As a side note, I wonder what the TSA does to your bags when you fly to TSA?

I was there pretty early as well (6:30) and there was hardly any line...maybe it was because I was smiling and laughing and being rather jovial about the whole thing...I kept talking to them about how this was my first time (and to be gentle). They were actually very pleasant about the whole thing so maybe I just got the lucky.

Really? I didn't have SSSS so maybe that's the reason but I was able to add my WP Gold (did it online so I could keep a copy of the BP's)

I didn't get SSSS'd but the TSA guy on the other side of the metal scanner said "COME TO ME" in a darth vader type voice. Thought it was kinda humorous..

This is too funny as I thought the bed was one of the BEST I have ever slept in in a hotel (At home I have the Sleep Number and THAT IS the BEST). My guest and I both had our rooms on the 4th floor and she said that she thought her bed was the best and she slept all through the night. I thought the AC was perfect and not too loud.

Boy if the 6th floor was unworthy what the heck was the 4th floor.

I didn't like the fact that the time went too quickly and I didn't get a chance to find and/or talk to people who I wanted to.

I have to agree with you about that bed. I LOVED it. Not too hard, not too soft and plenty of pillows to go around. In fact the Hampton Suites we stayed in not too far back had a similar great bed.

I'd like to hear about the 6th floor too! The King hospitality suite we had was ok.. and on the super-lowly 3rd floor. Living room, plasma TV, conference room.. separate bedroom.. all for $89.

Yeah the AC was a bit loud.. but I did manage to find the off switch (right before we were leaving.. )

The Xyzzys were on the 7th floor and the beds there were fine too. The HVAC system was not terribly loud. The room had inadequate lighting, though.

Regarding the party, I only found out on the way out that there was some sort of raffle that I managed to miss on the way in. Quite a few other people missed that as well. There was so much else going on...
  • Poker
  • Blackjack
  • Bars on every level (two on the second level)
  • Food
  • Silent auction
  • Live band
Also, the fabulous Mrs. Xyzzy found the man who wanted to wear his kilt. Alas, the thought of being criminally de-accessorised by the TSA caused him to opt for a tuxedo instead.

I happened to be on the 6th floor of the DT. I found the bed to be quite comfy--the AC was a touch noisy--but at least it worked well.

I would agree that the tours could have started a little earlier (even though I am not a morning person). That would be my only complaint and that is very very minor.

I stayed DT on Saturday night.
Bed is not specifically bad but I agree, other hotels are better. Four Comfort Bed of "Four Points by Satan" (copyright by FCTSTY) is much better.
I wonder if they replaced all beds when they bought property from Hyatt.

AC, I turned off. (I was on 7th floor)

The DT desk clerk told me at checkin that the hotel had recently been renovated.

Yes, those are new beds. I stayed in that hotel shortly after it was converted to a DoubleTree, and they have replaced all of the furniture. The rooms are much nicer than they were in that property's final days as a Hyatt.

I was on the 5th floor. No upgrade for me, but then, I had the 1000 bonus points selected as my VIP amenity. I like the DoubleTree beds, and slept quite well. The AC was fine, but being from Houston, I'm used to the thing running full blast all the time. I tend to sleep better with the noise it makes. If it's off, I'm usually way too hot, and can't sleep because it's too quiet.

What did I hate? Not being able to meet more new people - damn those premium wines!

Other thoughts?

1) The food was pretty bad on Friday, but I also agree that is just poor DT catering. The venue was pretty cool, however.
2) A sunday brunch would be a great idea, but given the variety of departure times it would be tough to pull off.
3) I would have liked some time for a FlyerTalk forum with Randy and the moderators.
4) I had no clue there was a raffle - perhaps we could have gotten a handout at the door?
5) No craps?!?!
6) It would be great to have the CO staff have their name AND group on their nametags.
7) I loved the auction, but how about some travel items? One would think many of us would have made some big donations for fun trips or the like.
