Heh. Not quite.

Buncha weirdos over there in Louisiana.

Texas was initially settled by the rejects of the American legal community (who were too daft to cut it in high-brow jurisdictions like Tennessee and Kentucky), who didn't properly understand either common law or the Spanish civil law they found here. Accordingly, those bozos did a real number on our legal system when they created the Republic (and the State). As far as I know, we are the only jurisdiction that allows jury trials in divorce cases, amongst other oddities.

But Louisiana... talk about a swamp-addled b@stardization of Roman Law. I've studied in, and gotten degrees from, civil-law jurisdictions (well, mixed civil/common)... and Louisiana's take on law is just flat out weird.

Napoleonic code, no?

Awesome™ Thanks. I'd also ask how to multiquote, but I don't think I wanna.

Okay, I get it. the escape 153 is just the "TM". A symbol out in the two byte world of Unicode, according to some character set, right?

™ is an ASCII character, though all ASCII characters are part of the Unicode charset. You can get ™ by holding the ALT key while pressing 0153. ALT+0169 gives you ©. It's good clean nerdy fun. :)

It's ascii code.

The multi-quote is the button in the lower right of the post with the quotes and the + sign. Just click that on each post you want to quote, then when you're done, click on a quote or post reply button. But that's all frowned upon here anyway.;)

Sigh, just missed an attempted close (~10min) connection here at IAH... seems the 18:10 outbound for MAF was loaded and ready to go at 17:50 and since I wasn't listed for the flight... they left 20min early.

So now I'm sitting in the B club until 21:00 when they close. Anyone around here?

I can't believe I'm going to discuss nerdy stuff with you guys, and do so at my peril. But, I thought that the ASCII character set was depleted at 127; i.e., all ASCII codes fit into one byte. Not so?

My point exactly. In fact, one of you guys should make a character of two fingers crossed, as is popularly done in allusion to vampire deterrence.

Interesting. I guess I'm thinking of the old ASCII, that of seven bits. All that stuff in the link is, I'm guessing, using the 8th bit, to make codes from 128-255 available.

The stuff you can learn.
