If I ever get a dog, it would probably be the official state dog of Maryland.

My Golden is doing his best to work through a new baked beef bone that Mrs. MBM3 picked up for him while shopping for people food. He is at my feet under my table desk - as usual - and you would think I slipped him crack. Dude has not stopped for an hour straight.

Absolutely beautiful! I think there's an error on the page, though: that dog does not look to be descended from Newfoundlands: they're big and lummoxy. I think almost certainly the writer meant Labradors.

The lab is the same way; nothing in the world is as important as that bone. And then, suddenly, for no reasons that we mortals can comprehend, the bone is totally , and it's time for something else.

I don't know the genealogy but I can tell you they are strong, loyal, friendly, and incredibly smart.

Close. You're thinking of Oyster Creek Nuclear, and that's in the Forked River section of Lacey Township. I grew up and graduated from high school there.

No - I don't read fiction (although I had to read the original "Sot-Weed Factor" as an undergrad).

I thought you might have been referring to a nuclear missile sight. There was an old Nike site in Franklin Lakes near where my family still lives. IIRC there are several in about a thirty mile radius around New York City.

Among the common retrievers, goldens are generally considered the smartest. That's why they're used far more as serious service dogs for visually and physically handicapped: they can retain a good vocabulary of items and respond correctly, not to mention read traffic flow correctly in the visual services tasking.

I don't know that I've ever seen a Chessy used in service, but that's probably because they are much more rare and probably much more expensive.

Look delicious. But your timing of posting, in the middle of discussion of large breed dogs, was cause for a little pause, at least on my part.;)
