Are you around the airport on Monday, June 14? I will be passing through on the way home.

I couldn't imagine doing this ride in 2 seprate cars! Glad it worked out that we only needed to take one. After driving all morning, I'm now relaxing in the passenger and (for the first time) wishing I had a 3G iPad.

There's a correlation between cities that have good public transportation while at the same time having some of the world's worst gridlock. D.C. is a perfect example.
Some cities were built to drive in, others not. This is one that was not, hence a major part of the reason we don't drive in it. I will say that the walk from the Metro station to our apartment today was HOT. It's only a few blocks and takes less than 10 minutes, but it's scorching out there. I knew this city ranks up there with Houston when it comes to miserable summer weather, more so than Atlanta. But I'm not complaining too much. I took a quick shower after I got home, since we're having a friend over for dinner tonight and I didn't want to be too grungy when he gets here. And I'll still take my 20-30 minute commute from DCA home via Metro and a short walk in the heat versus the 60-90 minute ordeal from the plane to the front door that I did every week from ATL for two years. |

I still don't understand why they had to organize the *A DO to require you to leave on Monday and take an entire week off from work or whatever else one does if one wants to experience all the events. I understand that there are plenty of independently wealth, self-employed, or remotely-working FT'ers who have the ability to attend a DO like this for an entire week without an impact on their work activities, but I would imagine that the vast majority of people who will attend the entire DO do not fit into those categories.
I would like to go, but there are only a couple of times a year when I can take a consecutive week or more off and I am not going to use one of those times to go to the DO. If they were to schedule things in a manner that would allow one to leave on Thursday or even Wednesday, I could probably attend most of it. I don't know why they didn't schedule it in that manner; I guess more people are willing to take nearly a week's worth of time off from 'normal life' than I otherwise would have guessed. (Yes, I realize that one can do the US charter in that time, but I would like to attend the whole thing). Not saying that's bad, just saying I wish it were more convenient. |

Gridlock is almost completely irrelevant when you don't have a car. And in Atlanta I dealt with it all the time, and didn't have much option to take MARTA in most cases, other than to/from the airport, so there was no escaping it.

I think I have a bad case of the vapors after what I just paid CO to go to SFO next month:mad: I couldn't even select a seat since the 5 remaining outbound were all in exit rows. Wish you could be door certified in advance:rolleyes:

I spent 2 hours in the DMV with my son explaining why his mother didn't notice his blue eyes turned hazel when he was 9 because she filled out the form. Then there was this growth spurt after 16. So the bearded wonder had his pix re-taken so he could turn 21 soon and look non-dorky:D
