What are we considering major? One we wanted to go to?

I counted the first one I went to without my parents. We went to see Ray Charles when I was about 12.

My first concert was The Carpenters; my second was John Denver. Conway Twitty isn't looking so bad now, is he? ;)

I need to stick to Thompson Twins then. Though I believe I saw Stryper earlier. I didn't choose it; it was a youth group thing. They were a bit hard for my taste.

DMB for me.

I saw Michael Jackson on tour in '83ish. What I remember of it was awesome.

Good times at dinner tonight. Got an email from an old coworker while on the train home. Apparently I'm going out to drink some more tonight.

Leavin' home, out on the road
I've been down before
Ridin' along in this big ol' jet plane
I've been thinkin' about my home
But my love light seems so far away
And I feel like it's all been done
Somebody's tryin' to make me stay
You know I've got to be movin' on

Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay

Goodbye to all my friends at home
Goodbye to people I've trusted
I've got to go out and make my way
I might get rich you know I might get busted
But my heart keeps calling me backwards
As I get on the 707
Ridin' high I got tears in my eyes
You know you got to go through hell
Before you get to heaven

Big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay

Touchin' down in New England town
Feel the heat comin' down
I've got to keep on keepin' on
You know the big wheel keeps on spinnin' around
And I'm goin' with some hesitation
You know that I can surely see
That I don't want to get caught up in any of that
Funky .... goin' down in the city

Big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay

Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay
Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah

Big ol' jet airliner
Don't carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's here that I've got to stay

Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Carry me to my home
Oh, Oh big ol' jet airliner
Cause it's there that I belong

^ That was my ringtone for CO updates for a couple of years.

I recall roadtrips from GA to FL where all we would listen to was the Steve Miller Band. I still smile every time I hear their music and smell a bit of salted air.

Always great to pass it along to the next generation.

What was the failure mode?

System hard drive failure. As in, the drive reads, fails, and parks continuously. Makes a lovely clanging noise. As for why I bought a new machine rather than replace the hard drive, read below.

What did you get? :-:

A base model HP p6300z with a few upgrades in processor, memory, and video. I put 4GB of RAM in it and a non-integrated video card, because integrated video is the devil. The computer that this will replace was built in 2003 and, while it was a top of the line machine at the time, it has been outpaced by four newer generations of technology. Replacing the hard drive (non-SATA) didn't make much sense when, for $400 more, I could get a computer that absolutely schools the one I have now.

To be clear, I strongly believe in building your own computer, and have always done so. However, to build the computer I want to build, I need about $1500. I don't have that kind of scratch laying around so I settled on something that will get me by for the next year or two while debt is paid down and so forth. And still, the reality is that this puny machine is so far and away faster than what died on me today, that I'm growing excited in anticipation of what new scenery I might be able to turn on in MSFS. Yes, I am that nerd. :p

Now comes the hard part: waiting for it to arrive.

Night, Box.

I played better than anticipated, but still was quite sucktastic. I don't recall the last time I played triple digits, but alas, I did. The best thing out of the short clinic was sand shots; which I've always been horrible at. I try and avoid the sand so as to not deal with it. It is not possible on Stonebriar, so I was able to put my new skills to test. I probably hit the best sand shots I ever have. I had some great shots, which will propel me to get my @$$ out there and play again, but I was woefully inconsistent. My short game shored up the last 9, and I chipped and putted the way I used to. Mr. Beem gave me sage advise before teeing off "Have a cocktail. I tell my wife to always have a cocktail. I don't care if we're golfing at 8 a.m., she needs a cocktail". I was really nervous my first three holes and played pretty $hitty. The beer cart girls showed up and after my first drink, I played better. After my second, I was playing much better and after my third, I didn't care how I was playing ;)

I was talking to someone at CO today and told her I'd be ready for the CO golf tournament this fall.

I'm still waiting on Charlie Wilson's War.

Morning, Box.

I know enough to not be surprised. I have to say, he seems really settled right now.

Hmmm, will speak to Plus1 since I know he finished the book. Ahem, ahem.

I was 3/4 through the blindside and apparently left it on our flight from PVG. It had my dragonair tix that I forgot to credit to CX, so hopefully can still retrieve.
