Probably LGA. The traffic might stink, but at least you're within the City limits when you land.

Terminals A-C at PHL actually looked pretty nice during my walk through them a few weeks ago. It's a shame they have to waste the newer part of the airport on US and WN.

Well, the piers themselves are dumpy, but the shopping area is decent and I'm thankful that D is connected airside to them.

All that prime real-estate will be available when US goes under. All that development was specifically done for US to keep them around and not abandon PHL. Little did the city know of the future of said investment.

Maybe the box can lease a gate at PHL when US dies. :) I have no idea what we'd do with it, but it could be fun.

It's still the drive that usually kills PHL for me.

Is it just that it's longer for you? The two drives are equally scenic.

I would argue that. I've made it from seat to curb side in five minutes and could easily be in the garage in another five.

Obviously if you come in on C-96 or C-138 you won't. Plus, if you fly another carrier it's even faster since the pods aren't quite as long as C.

Maybe I just get crap draws on gate assignments. I always feel like I'm trekking thru EWR like a Sherpa.

Shouldn't cost more than a few bucks. :)

Yeah - it's quite a bit longer (by about 40-45 min). The drive to PHL is actually much more scenic as I take back roads down to 95. Once I'm on 95, it is no different from 78 - just worse drivers.

Depends on time of day and where you are trying to get to.

My apartment is basically equidistant from all three and a lot depends on time of day. For way uptown LGA makes a lot more sense. For lower Manhattan EWR has the convenience of the Holland Tunnel.

I plan to attend with a +1. I am entertaining the idea of flying out of PHL due to price and upgrades. EWR is $700 for two tickets and PHL is $420, but they do not fly 767’s from PHL which is making my decision hard. I would defiantly be down for a side box do at the co do. I am going to wait until I hear a date from the Insider before making a purchase and then try to sort this all out.

If you're taking public transport - probably EWR.

If you're driving ... as others have said, depends on where you're going.

When I wrote that "Nearly equidistant" line in my profile, I GoogleMapped it just because I'm a curious guy. The difference for me is 12 miles in favor of PHL. Add in a lower fare and easier airport transit, and all of a sudden a quickie stop in CLE or IAH is reasonable.

And you haven't met bad driving until you've met the hordes of PA people going home on the AC Expressway. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania must have its residents scared to death w/r/t speeding. The NJ people weave around the PA people at 75-80mph because the PA people do 55-60, sometimes blocking both lanes.

EWR is not bad. I try to take the first flight out and rarely run into problems. Only in the late afternoon and evenings do the delays start stacking. That is when you can wait over an hour to take off. I also try to arrive into EWR in theearly afternoon or late evening. I find that is the best time.

ConciergeMike Nov 13, 2008 9:11 am

An EWR first flight for me immediately brings a pre-night to mind. For my FLL trip in December, we're getting rooms because the first flight is 6:20am, or something around there. It makes more sense for me to get a room than to get up at oh-dark-thirty and drive. I've done the first RJ of the day from PHL to CLE, and that's nice because it hasn't been oversold any time I've taken it, and one good thing about Terminal D is that breakfast joint on the left at the end of the pier.

Wow - you must see a very different PA crowd down there! I see PA drivers on 78 all the time doing 80+ and weaving in and out of lanes. They are also really bad tailgaters.

I am just about 25 minutes from EWR and I know it sucks to take those first flights of the day. I have taken the 0530 ewr-iah and it was rough. getting up at 0245 SUCKS. I could only imagine driving from south Jersey

I've witnessed that, but not on the Expressway. I'm convinced that cars delivered and/or sold in PA have had their blinkers deactivated. Down here the New Yorkers are the tailgaters. Only a small minority of the NJ people understand that a NY-style tap of the high beams is a polite request to move over. Most of us down here see it as an insult and immediately brakecheck the offender. I personally sit in both camps, completely dependent on my mood that day. With the Expressway crowd, I'm not joking when I say that it's common to see 55 in the left lane and 58 in the right, with a huge line of cranky people behind them. That's the downside to living in protected woodlands - any road larger than two lanes basically needs to have heaven and earth moved to get it built.
