I'm guessing you are in the southern sections of Somerset? It's interesting how much of a range there is in the amount of snow this thing dropped in the area. I'd guess we ended up with 3-4" tops.

Yup. Pretty much.
I need no extra motivation, you are correct. On that note, without giving too much away, WWTBD: The property I am interviewing at is a Four Diamond, and they said in the interview that they want the fifth one. When I asked what they were lacking in to achieve said Diamond, they came right out and said that where I am applying to is the weak point. Further, they are looking for "a personality" (their words) that can represent the property. If I have an idea to improve the aforementioned weak link, and I saw no evidence of this idea in implementation the last time I was there, how do I play that to my advantage in the interview? I've been in the position of having ideas to help a hotel before, but never to this magnitude. Great new sig line, windwalker. ^ (I guess this is me feigning interest in others.) |

Really ???????????? I survived the Blizzard of 1996 in MD and was working at DCA at the time. Thank goodness I was off the days that this storm passed through because we were expected to be at work during it. The management mantra was "if the airport is open, you are expected to be at work on time". ..., easier said than done when you lived up north from the airport and got twice as much snow at DCA got. I couldn't get out of my driveway for 4 days until the plows showed up. I saw that DCA got 25.4" of snow and IAD was hit with only 18.9". |
Well, tonight's gig was canceled too....the bar decided to close for the day at 1:00. This sucks.....this was the money to pay for my MEX runs
From 2 gigs to zero because of a little snow. |
Measured an untouched patch of the front yard on the last shoveling rotation - about 19". Still coming down unceasingly.
Also, I woke up this morning feeling not at all sore from the shoveling (which gives me some hope that all of this gym business is having an effect), but instead lightly aching all over. Out comes the thermometer - 99.8. I never get sick so I don't know how big of a deal this is, but...well, yeah, as I said, I absolutely can't afford to get sick in the next two weeks so we just press on. |
Just placed an over the top(for 2 people) order from the neighborhood Italian/Pizza place in order to 1)use up a gift card:D and 2)have enough leftovers for the game tomorrow.@:-) I can feel the arteries closing as I type.

Afternoon, Box. WE got about 3" of snow here. Mr.Brit and the girls have bundled up and gone off sledding. It was like a trio of Michelin Men marching down the driveway!

Without knowing the details, it's hard to give specific advice, but to help you brainstorm, here's some quick ideas:
1) Write the presentation/memo from front house manager/director announcing your idea to the staff (describing the idea and perhaps giving a broad timeline for implementation and a sentence or two on what he expects from various areas for the implementation). Write it so that this presentation/memo is ready to go as you share it in your interview (or if not possible in a follow-up e-mail) so that the momentum is already there. 2) Write a proposal describing your idea so the people interviewing you see that you have the skills to be the leader of the change for your idea and see the way things should be very clearly. Don't give everything away so they bring you on to implement, but make it very clear that you know what you're doing and can implement it (or make a significant change) within the timeline needed for the fifth diamond review 3) Announcement of the impact the change had (could be many formats from letter of chain management - assuming this is a chain - to hotel management congratulating them on huge impact on guest satisfaction scores from the change and asking for info to expand it to rest of chain to newspaper article discussing it). BTW, I realize his path sounds like it may be most up your alley given what you've shared of your statement of objectives for grad school. Whatever you chose, tie it back to what you are bringing (i.e., why you are uniquely suited to implement this - you've done it before, you've led other changes like this) For the personality piece, could you pull together a compelling visual (e.g., a page with a collage, a box with trinkets) with pictures/e-mails/thank you notes from guests/sketches of ideas/etc. that will quickly help them go a-ha, this would be awesome to have here at our property in x months and clearly this person has a better of the vision than we do so he's got to lead the change! Hope this helps!

That's a tough one. One vague suggestion but a very important one on how ever you approach this, what ever you say make sure your proposal has a clear and tangable positive buisness outcome, (they only understand money). So your idea increases customer satsifaction that leads to 5 diamonds which allows for more customers and a higher room rate/repeat business = more profit for the property.

I don't know the cost of implementing what I have in mind, but IMHO it is minimal if the result is a fifth Diamond.
When they ask the dread question "What's your greatest weakness" Never pick the greatest but pick some short coming and then explain how you've over come it and how that has lead to positive benefit. As always, turn all negitives into positives. |
