Super Platinum Onepass Level

It's not even June yet, and I am already at 90 segments and 73K. It's looking like another year of 200+ segments with Continental.

With all the business travelers today, I have always wondered why there isn't another level above Platinum for the true road warriors. My guess is that it's better to keep a bigger group of people somewhat happy than a selective few very happy.

It just doesn't seem fair that I travel every week (to 1 or 2 cities regionally)and I am a platinum; while my aunt who travels to Asia 4 or 5 times per year for leisure is also a Platinum.

Any thoughts?

I think it is that CO probably doesn't see any benefit from it. They probably assume (like I do) that anyone who flies 200+ segments has to fly 200+ segments and is probably constrained by geography or corporate agreement to CO. Even though this topic comes up, none of the posters seem to be looking to move their business because of the lack of an upper tier, so CO probably feels pretty safe not giving any special treatment.

None of this is to say that some recognition might not be warranted, just conjecturing about why CO doesn't think it worthwhile.

maybe they should move from frequent flyer miles to frequent flyer $$. whomever spends the most, gets ranked the highest for upgrades.

BTW,
We're in week 21 and you already have 90 segs and 70k+ miles...that's sick.

Back when TWA was in business, that was exactly what they did. Your frequent flyer status was based on either total miles flown or the amount of money spent.

If it was based strictly on $$ spend, then I would still be super Platinum but my aunt on the other hand would probably not even make Silver.

Not sure why airlines don't do that.

What's even sicker is that half of these flights are on regional jets on trips over 2 hours long.

If FF plans rewarded high spending, corporate bean counters would worry that corporate flyers would choose flights to maximize spending. Airlines are worried that in such an event, corporate TAs would be forbidden from booking flights on such airlines. Spending based FF plans aren't going to happen anytime soon.

While I will also finish the year close to 200k EQM, I do recognize that just getting to 75k (at least as a primarily domestic flyer) is hard enough and justifies PLAT status. I fly my ... off more or less every day, and get my miles from mostly domestic. I fly about 60% of my flights on Continental and the rest spread across the rest of them

I think maybe if we post this more it will get co's attention.

I think they do not fully understand the situation. I as well as many other plats do not fly our 150k miles on cheap fares. In past years when I thought it would be close (if I hit 75k or not) I would fly co exclusively. Lately I blow by 75k by June. Now I fly whatever airline, especially on transcons. I have been on too many h class coach transcons. Before some of you say you get what class you buy I agree. My corp policy is 1st 4plus hours. Good luck trying to find that on co last minute. I have several dl flights booked because their coach product is so much better. Jetblue is a viable alternative too.

Nyc has so many choices. why not dangle a carrot in front of super high milage travelers?

Put us at the head of the list. Cost=0

In what way is Delta's coach better ?. I have flown Delta coach a few times this year and it was gothic. I have flown coach on their 738, 757, 764 and MD-80 this year, and would not say it was better than the few coach Continental flights I have taken. Continental fed me, gave me a pillow (or two) and offered me a clean cabin. This is more than I can say for the Delta flights
