Connection time at CDG
In a few weeks, I have a 55-minute connection time from an Air France flight (Venice to CDG) to a CO flight (to EWR). Is that possible?
I did something similar at CDG in January with Air France-Delta from India, but not familiar with CO at CDG. Do I have to go through customs or security between flights? What about luggage -- is it checked through or do you have to re-check? I thought 55-minutes is tight, but CO says it's an accepted connection. This is the 9:55 am CO flight to EWR. Do they have a later one if I miss it?

CO is flying 3 daily summner flights between CDG and EWR. After your flight (CO57), CO139 departs at 11:25a and CO55 at 1:40p.
Hope that helps.

It looks like most Venice flight arrive in Terminal F. CO flights depart from 2A. You should take the airside tranist shuttle so you can stay airside and not go through passport and security. FOllow signs for "Correspondance Transfer." It's going to be tight connection and will be even worse if by chance the Venice flight doesn't go to a gate and you need to take a bus to the terminal.
There's a good discussion of CDG posted as a Sticky under the Air France Frequence Plus forum. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=456112

Actually Italy is part of Schengen so there will be no more security than if you came from a domestic flight (ie none), and you will have to go through the usual security for a North America departure. Staying airside thus won't be an advantage, security there could be busy too. In my experience, the airside bus is not better than walking through the terminals, so I can't recommend one. Walking from F to A takes a good 15-20mns, you could wait for a bus for longer though, but if the bus comes straight away it should be faster.
Moreover it will be the busy summer period... expect to miss your connection, and to be on the following flight, unless an agent comes and picks you up at the arriving plane's gate and drives you to your connecting flight, it does happen sometimes.

It's not enough. I suppose Continental just don't know the layout of CDG (though AF, who do, still sell unreasonable 'legal' connections which only create trouble for themselves and stress for the passenger when they are missed). Very many flights at Terminal 2 have remote stands with bus transportation to the gate, and 2F and 2A are about as far apart from each other as it is possible to get in that terminal. Queues for passport and security are long for transatlantic flights. You need at least 90 minutes connection time at CDG if you don't want to rush. Two hours is even safer.
If Continental will let you change to the later departure, then I should do it, just for your own piece of mind.

Unless I am mistaken, this is usually managed by AF for connecting to flights it operates. I haven't seen any report of such a transfer service to a non AF flight. Would anyone have personal experience in this respect ?

airside transfer not possible
Just one clarification. Since you are arriving from Italy (a Schengen country) airside transfer is not possible. 2D and 2F1 are the two Schengen terminals at CDG2 and they do not have stops for the airside bus. As mentioned above, it's like a domestic flight and that means you will have to walk or take the landside bus (and there are quite a few different ones, so this can be quite tricky). The best (and really the only easy) way to do this is walk from 2F1 to 2A (about 10-15 minutes) and then clear passport control and security in 2A. Your luggage should be checked through and you should be able to get your boarding pass for the CO flight in Venice. But if you need an additional stop at a transfer desk (or at CO check-in) in CDG to get your CO boarding pass you will most likely miss your flight. Personally, I think you should call CO and see if you can switch to the 11:25 flight. If CO says "no," then be mentally prepared to try to go standby on CO or AF later that day.
