Thank you. That may be the answer. It was a full-price domestic F/C flight for the next day and I was researching why, with 8 empty seats showing, the Elite line was telling me that my wife (Plat) had not been upgradad because all seats were sold. The seats showed empty right up to flight time and the Elite people continued to claim all were sold. Finally, she was upgraded to one of these seats at the airport. Obviously, the computer had not released them for EUA at five days, three days, or even two hours.

In any event, the problem seems to have been self-corrected by CO, and no charges have shown up on my card.

I was able to secure a gate pass without any problem at EWR back in October. My wife fiancee, at the time, was flying alone, ewr - tlv, with her wedding dress. As I took her to check in, i showed my gold elite card to the check in agent at the kiosk and told over my story. I was granted a gate pass without any problems from the continental side.

There were two issues though.

1. The TSA security person had no idea what to make of this when I was passing through security. I still could not get through into the sterile area for the TLV flights.

2. I still could not get into the sterile area for the TLV flights.

I have cancelled a flight before and gotten that message. You must take the second step of requesting a refund, otherwise they "hold" the refund on account for you. . . .
