So I just checked in for my 10:00 PM redeye from SEA-EWR right at 10:00 to try to optimize what little chance I had for an upgrade (on a Plat Y-Fare no less but yeah I know trans-con). As per the boarding pass I was the 12th person to check in.....are there really 12 equally upgrade obsessed people like me dying for an upgrade fix who all checked in within 30 seconds of the 24 hour window, or is the 24 hour clock based some other virtual reality time zone?
there are a few possible scenarios.
1) you already described. perhaps there were 11 people who hit that "check-in button a few seconds before you.
2) doesnt CO connect their ANC passengers through SEA? if so, they can check-in for all flights before you.
3) partner airlines. not sure how that exactly works, but if NW or AS customers flying on the SEA-EWR flight can check-in because they are connecting in SEA, they again, may be able to check in before you.
i always fly out of msy. i am usually the first in line from the iah-xxx or ewr-xxx flight because i can check a few hours earlier. espcially for early AM flights where i am not fighting many other connecting passengers.

not if they're flying anc-sea-ewr. you can checkin 24 hours before your originating flight in its originating city. so if you are leaving anc at 4pm (5pm sea) and connecting to a 10pm (sea-ewr) flight you can check in 29 hours before your actual sea-ewr flight. five more hours prior to someone flying only on the sea-ewr flight.Originally Posted by spainflyer
