not if they're flying anc-sea-ewr. you can checkin 24 hours before your originating flight in its originating city. so if you are leaving anc at 4pm (5pm sea) and connecting to a 10pm (sea-ewr) flight you can check in 29 hours before your actual sea-ewr flight. five more hours prior to someone flying only on the sea-ewr flight.
