Couldn't Get Seat Assignment
Can anyone tell me why my daughter traveling from GSO-EWR-SNN with a five year old and carrying an infant couldn't get assigned seats until she arrived at the airport? The flight was booked and paid for over four months in advance and at the time of booking there were plenty of open seats in coach. We called several different times and were always told she had to get her seat assignments when she arrived at the airport. She does not have status on Continental.

maybe it's a codeshare flight? I can't remember if you are able to choose your seats on those.....

The short answer is "because they can." CO limits seat availability for whatever reasons they come up with, and there isn't too much you can do about it, in general. The good news is that if she is travelling with the infant she might be able to negotiate the bulkhead for the bassinet, though I don't know if the kid is that small.

I would have her call CO, explain her situation, and see if they can put a note in her record to the effect that she is travelling with two small children. Groups like hers are exactly why they reserve bulkhead seats for airport assignment, even in cases where the rest of the seats CAN be selected..
