And my experience is that they do op-up pax by elite status and fare class. Maybe unless they are racing against time to get the flight out or similar circumstances.

How do you know that the stand-by pax that was op-up'ed were not elites?
Two of them were sitting in the row behind me. The guy got up and dropped his folio with his passport and tickets on my head when he was getting up. I saw they had no Elite Access. Hence they weren't elite. My thinking it was just the gate agents upgrading people to get the flight out on time.

boy, does that hit the nail on the head.

one way airlines recruit employees to work in lousy conditions for (often) under $30K per year is a perk called travel. i am not upset when an employee sits in a business class seat (i guess called a "J" seat). they've earned it for putting up with all of the obnoxious customers.

You mean "CO", "J" and "NRSA"? They're pretty commonly understood around here, especially by FlyerTalk Evangelists.

Certain individuals object to the use of ANY abbreviations on the forum, despite the fact that the Flyertalk TOS (Terms of Service) encourage the use of commonly understood abbreviations.

I can't believe he can stand the abbreviations in his handle. Craziness.

Abbreviations aside, these last 9 posts (10 including this one) has been truly enlightening on the subject of last-minute upgrades into BF.

"NRSA"

Non-rev something, but I couldn't figure it out either. English is good.

Right "non-rev". It's one of the most common abbreviations on FlyerTalk. I think there's a dictionary, if you're having trouble.
