Remember when Continental.........?
Just thought I'd try to get a little energy back to the forum after the terribly sad news about vincom.
Last night I was relaxing after work with a cocktail and thinking back about some of the things that Continental used to offer and changes that they have made throughout the years. I thought to myself, "good thread topic". So, if you have any tidbits of the past that you'd like to share in regards to services that CO used to offer or things that they used to do please do. Here's a possibly obscure one. Remember when Continental was testing thier beta website and I guess had alot of elites testing the site? After the testing was complete they sent out nice utility pocket knives with the Continental logo. Someone swiped mine at a trade show :( |
Used to upgrade Silver Elites regularly....
Which wasn't all that long ago. Now silver elite is good for seat assignments and going through security...
I can't wait to read the posts of this.... |

Lighten up
Come on, guys & gals, lighten up! I think the mood here was supposed to be reminiscing or uplifting, not just a b1&ch/complain thread.

I actually remember when CO appreciated the fact that I purchased a tkt on them and gave them my hard earned $$$. But that can be said for ALL US Carreirs today.

I remember when CO first started getting deliveries of thier 767s and they were using them on test runs EWR-MCO.
I always found it quite curious why they were using families going on vacations as guinea pigs, although it was probably some sort of logistical test. |
Will never forget the moment when I walked along the C concourse at DUS on my way to the Hugo Junkers lounge which was used by KL and CO back in the days when they still had flights to DUS.
All of a sudden an aircraft taxied around the corner which was obviously a B 757, easy to recognize because of its nose, however only seconds later it was obvious that it was actually Continental operating a 757 across the pond which was unheard of in the days when they used to fly the DC 10. CO 757 across the pond nowadays is nothing too uncommon, but 6-7 years ago, it was quite unique… |
The Proud Bird with the Golden Tail used to have in-flight contests. I won a bottle of Champagne on CO from ATL-SFO for correctly calculating the exact time our flight would be due north of Albuquerque, NM. Took the bottle all the way to Tokyo and back. This was in June, 1973.

I remember the days of the meatball...
the DC-10... the ever-failing fuel pumps... (which caused many nearly empty flights I was scheduled on to be cancelled)... |
- Getting to the airport 2 hrs in advance to try to use your Bronze Elite upgrade certificates
- Calling at midnight to secure your Elite upgrade - Flying on a DC-9/727/DC-10 - Earning 100,000s of miles back in the days of the AMEX bonus codes |

The DC-10s with the stand-up bar between FC and coach on the GUM-HKG runs. The 747-100's, LAX-HNL-SYD. Its sad to see these go bye bye.
