Parking in a free parking spot, walking for about 1 minute to the check-in desk, right through the metal detector, and onto the plane...total 5 minutes, at Ellington Field.
You used to be able to get tickets for OnePass miles too, I think. Asking a DC-10 captain at CDG, if he's sure nothing will fall off during takeoff. Pilots have no sense of humor. Big DC-10 windows. Trademark of McDonnell Douglas products. Puffer jets. I guess CO can't afford them anymore. Seats that didn't radiate 2000W of electronics waste heat into you and make you sweat. And of course... Doritos in the Presidents Club!!! |

The IAH-SFO 762s were around at least as late as the summer of 2003. I flew that route for a Labor Day Weekend trip that year. As late as summer of 2001, the DC-10s were still flying that route and IAH-LAX on at least one frequency per day. I flew my one and only DC-10 flight on IAH-LAX in September 2001 just before the type was quickly retired after 9/11. And I had an EUA to the BF seats as a silver.

I remember using 35k miles for two (yes two) tickets to St. Martin. We flew DCA to Newark to St. Martin. What a great use of miles!!

American Express used to partner with CO, and as a student I would get three travel vouchers good for flights anywhere in the lower 48 states for $149 round trip ($239 by senior year).
Of course, you had to jump through some hoops to get those vouchers to work. You weren't allowed to book until 21 days out, and had to complete your round trip within fourteen days from departure. Routings could be tricky; I spent many hours on hold while an agent sought approval for that 4 hour and 8 minute layover at EWR. I once got a res for ITH-(BGM stop)-EWR-CLE-(SDF stop)-IAH-SFO-LAX. On Christmas Eve.Then had to beg a friend to drive me to the airport in the middle of a blizzard so I could ticket it. True story (don't recall if the weird connection in SFO was COEx or another codeshare... HP? My luggage even made it). I hadn't heard of the term mileage run at the time, but I do remember distinctly that the voucher tickets booked into Q and qualified for 100% EQMs :). Generally, I have few complimentary things to say about CO during the early 90s-- in fact, I joined my college fraternity partly because one of the guys recognized me from a long EWR-BGM-ELM-(bus)-ITH adventure and we hit it off swapping airline horror stories. But I did like the COEx BAe-146s. They were retired or swapped for ATR turboprops before I'd been at school for long. |

100/102 EWR ATR hell. I spent it seems 100's of hours in that pen. |

They did have great promotions in the 90's. I got two BF tickets to FRA from CLE for 100000 miles, and 2 BF tickets CLE to HLN for 90000. ^ |

And I remember getting crown royal on domestic flights. I can live with the canadian club reserve, though. It's better than the seagram's VO you get on NW. I remember the bronze/silver/gold levels. Why were they bumped to silver/gold/plat? AA has gold/plat/exec plat.. so maybe we should have platinum/titanium/diamond, or something even more ridiculous? ;) |

AA has gold/plat/exec plat.. so maybe we should have platinum/titanium/diamond, or something even more ridiculous? ;) The new names Silver/Gold/Platinum reflect the change of miles to 25/50/75K. Thus Gold remained at 50K. The Bronze and the Gold used to be too close in color for the cards. To solve the Silver - Platinum color issue - Silver is a Blue Card. |

1997-ish coach seats on some planes (737s?) had these cheesy video games that were built into the seat in front of you.
There was some game called Suitcase where you had to pack a bag. |
