Ahh the good ole days. I remember when I used to be able to order Dr. Pepper in Y and FC, and get it.

I remember in the 80's getting special trips for accumulated segments in addition to miles we were already earning. We flew to Maui and then stayed at the Marriott free for three nights. We may have had to pay for the inter-island flights between HNL and OGG, but were buying cheap booklets of six tickets in those days.

I remember scoring the sweet upgrade on the 767 that used to fly LAX-EWR. That was a great flight, terrific service and wonderful comfort.
Going back quite a few more years, I remember flying CO in the 70s and the lounge they used to have in their DC-10's. Now whenever I fly CO I am completely hunkered down in my "minimum human space" coach seat. No fun at all... |

this is gross and probably not the best for Airplanes, but it gives you the best burps. |
I miss the Dr. Pepper too! And 7-Up instead of Sprite. It went away at the same time.
CO is a Texas-based company. Why can't we have a few Texas originals, like Dr. Pepper, 7-Up, and Shiner Boch? |

Does anyone remember the short-lived CO EX service LGA/ALB on a EMB-110? Great gate location at LGA, and always a quick trip!
Pub flights to LAX,HNL were the best! Yes, the ATRs were fun to be on! |
...when bump vouchers were blank paper tickets, and you could only call in to make reservations LESS than one week before departure? ...and that wasn't a problem, because availability was good?
...when CO fit into just terminal C at IAH? |
Yet another DC-10 Memory............
Flying a DC-10 meatball from STL to IAH. Last row in coach, middle seat of the 5 seat bank - with a great view of the entire cabin. STL is all ERJ "service" now.............. |
I remember . . .
- as a Silver, staying up and calling at 12:01 am to upgrade. I can't count the number of times I disappeared from social settings at midnight to make the call and would be gone for twenty minutes, having to explain my absence to friends. - being on a first date and having to explain why I had to get on the phone at midnight for a few minutes - "do you really have to fly first class!?" was the woman's response; -using payphones on street corners in SFO and NYC to make the upgrade call when my cell phone battery was dead. I also used to go to bed early and set the alarm for midnight, get up, make the call half-dazed, and go back to sleep (or fall asleep on the phone to be awakened by a CSR); - my 95%+ upgrade average as a Silver; - my nearly 100% CLE-west coast upgrade average as a Silver; - using NW upgrade certs; - my first CO elite upgrade - was either CLE-SFO or CLE-IAH (will have to research this); - my first ever elite upgrade, actually on a NW DC9 MEM-CLE - was one of two pax in F and the FA gave me a bottle of cabernet to drink; - getting upgraded as a Silver on the SFO-IAH 762; - my first op-up - HNL-IAH on a brand new 764; - flights with one or two empty F seats; - NW flights with hardly any CO elites up front; - mainline service DCA-CLE; - my first EUA notification; - EWR-DCA and ex-SFO upgrades as a Silver and Gold; - 100% EQMs on any NW fare; - when Concourse D at CLE first opened; - the 9:00 am-ish daily CLE-DEN A300; - my first EWR forced overnight due to ATC issues; and - the first GIG and GRU flights. CO has been very good to me since I first became elite seven years ago. I feel that I've received a great value with respect to upgrades and mileage redemption over the years and continue to receive a good value, even as a Gold and despite the recent changes in fare structure and upgrade capacity. |

That sounds like a deal breaker right there. |

I got mine in '97. The first coupon I used was going IAH-PHX. It was a zoo at the gate and I approached the GA and politely asked about using one and he said "hang tight and I'll see what I can do." I stood nearby and about three minutes later he stuck his hand out to the side with my new BP. Another time I was going IAH-MCO on a DC-10. This was memorable because a) it was a widebody going to Orlando; and b) it was my first time in BF. I realized THAT is the way to go. By the time I used my last coupon, I was bronze and got a whole new set of them. Been Elite ever since. Then becoming bronze, it was almost 100% to get upgrade at that time- and I'm elite ever since, too. |
