Weird price difference...

Weird price difference...
Not that I would make a fuss over $1.50, but on March 31st I booked a reservation through CO.com with a total of $777, including taxes (nice number, I know).
Today, after 48 hours I received a confirmation email for the booking and the total for it was $778.5, including taxes. After comparing it to the notes that I made for the total price - the difference appears to be in the taxes.
Again, I will still sleep good at night knowing that I paid $1.50 more than what I was supposed to, but is that ok that I was charged extra? Shouldn't have I been notified or questioned whether I still confirm to charge my card for the changed amount? Could they have charged me $50 more that way?

But, sometimes it goes the other way, too, especially on international taxes.
And I was glad when the county assessor changed my property tax check from $1,689.78 to $1,869.78 without calling me, thereby saving me a $187 penalty. I did get a letter from the 2 months later explaining what they had done

well at least you didnt buy a msy-mia-msy S fare for $467 for it to turn into a $427 H fare. i am f#$%^&ng pissed. but i guess that's the way it works.

PFCs for EWR went up to $4.50 (from $3.00) on April 1 this year.

.Slightly OT, USAToday has an article today saying that DL will start charging its pax the PFC's (and they hope other airlines will follow). I am under the impression that the pax already pay PFCs. Any thoughts on what they mean?

I can't imagine that CO will be stupid enough to charge such fee as taxes. It is not tax related, and might cause them trouble, especially when they can just include it inside the ticket's price and then u won't even notice it...

Anyway, PFCs have been in effect since the "Aviation and Capacity Expansion Act of 1990." Originally, they were between $1-$3. Since then, airports have been allowed to apply for a $4.50 charge. A complete list of these by airport can be found at PFC Approved Locations (PDF file) if anyone is interested. PFCs are used for airport improvement projects. Without them, airports would have even more trouble finishing large projects. These have nothing to do with the airline that collects them, they never really see the money (except to transfer it to the airport).
