To Upgrade or Not To????

Ok the Story and Question,

I have a flight to TLV upcoming in the next week+, Im booked in "N" class to go to "H" it will cost me an extra $505 which is $405 plus $100 change fee , now I can get Confirmed for the Upgrade to BF , this flight is appx 10+hrs , or I can Upgrade my "N" for $300 & 30,000 miles. as of now the back is way Empty with a good chance of getting 3 seats for myself, but nothing is gauranteed. Im 6'2" so it wont be the most restful sleep even if I can grab the 3 seats.

I usually do this Run/Flight in Coach, I just was able to switch a Standard Coach to Standard BF to AMS in May, I figured that was worth the extra 25,000 miles as its an Award tkt so no Copay ( way back is n Coach but its a Day flight that leaves at 1:30pm so I dont mind the back for that.)

On 1 hand I HATE to give CO both the Miles and the $$$, on the other I'll get a nice sleep over even thou its the #84 which leaves at 3;50pm and not the 90 which is a Night Flight. Only decent seat left is 9E, I Hate the windows and Seat Guru showed the other available all to be less desirable as they are on top of the Lavs.

So what to do , give in to CO and pay up with the miles and $300 or go Coach. Out of Principle I want to remain in Coach. But no sense Cutting off my head cause I dont like my Nose. Ive never done BF on any Intl flight.

forgot to say as a Plat the flight itself will bring me back appx 13,000 miles or the net loss in miles is Only 17,000

I would think that you would give twice the money for BF while suffering in coach for 10 hours.

If I had to use miles for anything this would be the flight I would use them for. Even at a 4pm(ish) flight it will still be a night flight. You will have a couple hours of light and then dark. The flight is around 10-11 hours long and biz/first is awesome. After our last trip I rate it easily above Virgin's upper class. The food is excellent and then I found the seats quite comfortable.

If you just did this once it might spoil you for coach, or at least make the flights seem more uncomfortable. (that is something to think about) On the other hand seems worth trying if you never have.

*btw thanks again for the advice on Israel, we drove down 90 south though the west bank, no problems.. As you said it was curvy. Took the fast 6 toll road along the coast back up.. ^

for the record I went for the UP. Ive done the flight at least 10 times Only in Coach never got BF even when I was flying on "H": fares which unfortunately was very often as everything else was already sold-out.

I paid the miles & $$$ from my "N" fare, I figured it wasnt worth payinmg the extra for an "H" as the extra 2850 miles wasnt really worth it as thats just over a PHL-LAX flight where I can earn 2700 EQMs and the last few times at $160 for a r/t tkt.

Thanks All for your input and to Entropy who was PMing me very late last night NY time.

Derrico Im happy I was able to Help and that the 2 of you were able to and get it in. FYI if you drove the 90 from the Dead Sea or Jerusalem then you drove UP not DOWN as Tiberris and The Golan is in the North. Hope to be doing that drive Up & Down next week Myself once again.

Lehava, EWR-TLV aint Bad , Ive got a EWR-PEK in coach 10 days after I get from TLV, couldnt pass on the 30,000 miles for a R/T tkt. then back over to TLV on AZ (DL Biz free tkt, via BOS & MXP) 10 days after getting back from PEK for 2 weeks, and then over to AMS from EWR on CO for 5 days, BF going and Coach returning Free tkt and free stay at The Pulitzer Thanks to SPGs 50% Pts offer. then I have 3 weeks to recoop before Yep TLV again in Paid Coach

hehe, I didn't think I'd escape credit for a TLV thing on FT..

EWR-PEK in Y will be most unpleasant!

btw for those of you who are interested there seems to be an unusual amount of E/F seats on the TLV flights the next couple months, I was surprised to see them.

From Jerusalem we drove the 90 down to Masada + Ein Gedi, then through Arad on to Beersheba, and then took the 3 back up to Jerusalem.

I made the decision not to take it back up through the northern part of the west bank (IE from Jericho up) I know you said it was safe, but wife was uncomfortable and hense I decided to go around.

The next day we took the #6 toll road up to Nazareth and on to Tiberias. It was actually very quick. The 90 would have been nice though, since we ended up driving it part way down anyway. (The Bet She'an ruins were fantastic.) Thanks again.. ^
