BUMP Question

I was in EWR friday evening for my connecting flight to AMS. I was booked into BF. They were requesting volunteers for the flight because it was severly overbooked. (Spring Break for a good portion of the country) I went to the red coat who took my BP and said he would put me on tommorrows flight and give me $400 plus hotel. He said to wait till after boarding because they can not do it before. I told him that would work and I wouldn't even need a hotel because I have family I'd like to see. About 20mins later the conceriage comes over with my boarding pass and tells me he will NOT move me to the next days flight. Only coach px can volunteer even though the red coat had already taken my BP and told me that I would be going tommorrow. I asked why I could not volunteer for the same compensation (actually less since no hotel). I was just told NO I will NOT do it!

Who should I talk to about this? Also he didn't even bother to come on board and check with the passengers in BF like he was supposed to. I boarding 1st and NEVER once saw him on the plane with a passenger. Would the I could give a care line do anything if I called?

So your complaint is that you flew business class from new york to amster**** and arrived on-time, but would have prefered that the airline pay you $400 to go the next day because you'd like to spend some time with friends in NY?

Yeah, give them a call, heh.

1. Next time don't confess that you are going to enjoy the time with family. Or at least wait until the plane has departed without you.

2. The airline may have had too many complaints and hassles from volunteers from first and business class getting rescheduled on coach seats that in the future they want to deal only with coach passengers.

3. The airline has unilateral choice on which volunteers to choose.

In the eyes of the CO Marketing Dept permitting a B/F occupant to be "bumped" would degrade the "integrity" of the sacred B/F cabin. BTW exactly how did you get seated there?

I kind of had the same happen to me:
The GA took my boarding pass when the red coat said " Oh no you can not inconfinience a BF customer! " Where she replayed "But they are happy to be inconfinienced!"

Well they ended up having 2 emty seats anyway

I asked to do this once, the concierge told me that BF was not oversold only coach was there for I could not vol to stay, if I did there would be no comp and be subj to tkt rules. The comp is different for BF pax to get bumped(when bf is oversold) and he did not need any vols from the BF cabin. So he could not justify compensation. He said the agents do a seperate oversell report for coach and the Concierge does their own for BF.

I bought one of the nice Z fares that required a 50day advance purchase. All told the ticket from MSP cost $1800

To me it just seems absured to deny a person who is willing and able to stay an extra night somewhere just because of what cabin they are in. I asked for no more (and actually less since no hotel was needed) then what was being offered in coach. If I had asked for BF denied boarding compensation then I believe they should have said NO.

Yes -- but your BF seat was no good to them because in order to use it they would have had to bump up one of the Y pax and *that* would have "...degraded the intgegrity of the BF cabin..."
